WHERE IS OUR YELLOW RIBBON

That surprises and saddens me. If the people in Pakistan are not going to care for their faujis, then who will? They have to be part of this effort, for it provides the foundation.
No charity starts from a scratch and starts earning donations overnight. You for one must know that even if people donates they ask for 'something' in return, in our case we would give them recognition with ribbons/stickers etc.

Moreover, if a charity is being run by unknown guys like ourselves without the patronage of govt or the military, seriously who are we kidding that people would start opening their banks for us? So therefore i say people might not give donations as a starter especially when they dont know where there money is being spent, or would they? And thus the idea of mine whereby i suggested that we should sell items on a higher rate. No one minds buying peak cap for a bit higher cost for faujis, but he may not give that money to unknown guys for nothing in return. And once 20 guys within a community or a school/college will be wearing green ribbon T-shirts, caps etc, people will automatically get interested and once out of curiosity they are going to visit the weblinks on that T-shirt where we would display videos of our guys handing over donations to the widows etc i.e. our credibility will be established, people might start giving hard core donations also. But until then we should not fools ourselves that Pakistani people will start giving to members of PDF out of the blue.

Lastly, i would appreciate if you can participate into the debate rather than getting surprised and being saddened.

people will go money to their faujis, but not to ambiguous charities , especially considering the situation in Pakistan.

If the Army calls for it if need be, or the government calls for it, people will give it directly to the institution.

But if we make up our little charity, most people will not give anything to us for obvious reasons.

Which brings me back to my point again: Do we want to launch another effort, or, better yet, just add on to an institutional effort originating from Pakistan? That would give it credence and make it more productive in helping those affected, which is the whole point of the exercise.

Guys we do not need to be saddened nor surprised. Or go off at a tangent worrying about who will give or will not. Start it in one jurisdiction and then let it grow organically. Mistakes may be made but you will learn

Of course.

I have said it is a great idea, and I look forward to helping as things get moving along.

I think I will just lurk here for a while you guys sort out the basics. Please let me know if I can do something that you think might help. Okay?

Please do so. And how about the crystallization of ideas? Do we need another thread for it or should it be done here on this thread? i mean the designing of stickers and other items. We do have a few graphicans here on PDF who can design them. Let's start asking for graphics/sketches, we can discuss them one by one and once finalized someone out of the team can take on its preparation.

Stealth has some really good ideas about graphics and all/

Yes. And then we may not require very elaborate graphics as a starter. Even a small sticker with a Green Ribbon on one side and saying like

'You know guys, i have supported my soldiers by donating them xyz' or

'i have bought a few book for a Shaheed's son, wont you?'

i mean it should be something trendy and something our people should feel pride in carrying on them/their cars. Words should matter, we can do away with the graphics, or viewers might just take it as any other military sticker.

Has anybody checked if a green ribbon has already been trademarked by somebody like an environmental movement or something before we go down that route? That should be checked before any merchandise is printed, don't you think?

Guys, the ideas you presented above are practical and when implemented will prove beneficial to the cause over a longer period.
What i was suggesting is that here in UK, ( Most will agree) collecting a few thousand pounds is no big deal.
£ 1000 transfers into well over Rs. 1,00000. Initially, if we send this money to Xeric in Pakistan and it gets distributed even amongst a few affected families, without the photo flash and all, it will set the ball rolling, give motivation and above all let at least some know that we may be living far away but this tragedy is very close to our hearts. !!

.
I don't think a green ribbon is a good idea at all!

(for outside Pakistan at least)

Excerpt from: Green ribbon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The green ribbon has been used as a symbol for many campaigns, including environmental justice, mental health awareness, cannabis-liberation, agriculture and to show support for legalized forms of pornography and sexual content.

.
A noble cause, we are all behind you.

. .
That's just one of many of it's past uses.
BTW, we can always personalize our ribbon, add a star and a crescent and viola! It's unmistakable!

Good idea; I was just about to suggest a simple green ribbon, but with a white strip added, in the same proportion as that on the Pakistani flag.
