I think its relatively a simple job to set up a charity in UK. Benefit being that any donation will attract tax relief

Top level - Start up a charity

Guys I suggested to you yesterday that it is relatively simple to set a charity up in the UK. Whilst I admire Windjammer and SK's head first approach. Anything that involves third parties moneys must not just be done properly but seen to be done properly with proper procedure. It is simply not acceptable that one individual's account name and account number are put up here and we donate to it. I have asked for those account details to be removed of the thread.

What you need to do is perhaps set a committee of a minimum of three. I excuse myself although I will be more than happy to advise after a committee has been set up.

Before bringing this thing on the forum sort your admin and status out first

.
These issues are exactly why I asked whether it would be better to wait for the ISPR to set up an official account to accept donations. That way no individual(s) run afoul of the multitude of laws governing donations and money transfers.

.
I would suggest Windjammer Superkaif and Bilal as my nominations for a committee to be set up. If these three individuals confirm that they are happy to do this. I suggest that others who want to volunteer or propose some other individuals do so. Then hopefully by consensus we need to agree a committee.

On my part I am happy make small monthly contributions as I think it is an excellent idea in principle

i may be blunt on this but please bear with me as i say that helping the widows and children of shuhadas and those soldiers who have lost their limbs through a systematic and organized platform INVOLVING the military itself would not be a guud idea. The reasons, well we all know that the military takes guud care (though not even close to what can be termed as a guud standard) of its men and their families and it would not like to ask for donations and stuff. Secondly there aint any establishment within the GHQ that would do this, though ofcourse we have a dedicated Directorate which is vest with the welfare of such men, but then it runs on the compulsory insurances that military-men are ought to subscribe to during their service and other welfare projects like Fauji Foundation and AWT etc.

But then i do like the idea!

So what we can do is this:-

- Run an independent (from military) setup that can collect donations and other stuff.

- i and others here can provide the list of such cases which are in need of assistance (widows and their children etc)

- Those among us who can spare sometime can then personally go and deliver the stuff to these families. Ofcourse, they can make a video of it, post it on youtube, boast about it on social networks, twitter etc and may be someone inside the media can pick upon it on the later stages.

- Further we can 'incentivize' those who donate with some ribbon/shield/certificate whatever.

So the bottom line is that either we can present the names of widows on case to case basis here and write about them (their problems, how the family head embraced shahadat etc) or alternatively we can just put up the names and address of such families as one list (which would be updated periodically) and then ask for donations or still we can do the mix of both the options above, but the thing remains that this organization, if i can term it as such has to be independent of the Army/military and someone out of us has to deliver or send the gathered money/stuff to these families independently.

It's a long shot, but i am sure with the passage of time and as this initiative gains momentum (as people would start seeing people wearing green ribbons on them of their cars etc and with the help and power of internet), i am sure we can attract media's attention and then further are gains.

i am available for any assistance within the confines of my blurred identity.

Thank you Xeric.
Exactly the idea, the honourable gentleman has put up on the screen.
Firstly, the ISPR did inform me that they don't run donation hot lines or such since there is an Armed Forces Welfare Fund, which when required, it's tapped into. After the 2005 earthquake, we were fortunate to have people on ground zero, who personally distributed the funds we collected. Similarly after the floods, same exercise was executed, albeit this time instead of monetary assistance, focus was given to the installation of water hand pumps since the water supply had become polluted.
We indeed need people like our Xeric on the ground to oversee the effort.
I suggest initially we, the concerned and interested make lump sum contribution and dispatch it to who ever is willing to commit to the responsibility while at the same time work on the other ideas for the long term basis.

.
And then one more thing, some people may no give donations directly, rather they would like to purchase something in return and some share of the money thus collected can then be termed as donations. e.g we can print T-Shirts with green ribbon on it, Mugs, the Green Ribbon itself, Peak-Caps, arm bands and especially car stickers like those we have for universities/colleges etc, with something written on it like 'i support my troops' or 'i am a proud supporter of Pakistani troops' whatever.

Now a T-shirt may cost Rs 300, but you can sell it for Rs 600. The making of Green Ribbon may cost Rs 20, but we can sell it for Rs 50 0r 100 and so on and so forth for other items, and then we can also tell it to the people in order to be fair and square that out of the Rs 600 T-shirt that you have purchased, Rs 300 are for the T-shirt itself and the remaining Rs 300 would be taken as a donation for troop families.

Ofcourse this should be done in addition to hard core donations.

To put in finesse we can differentiate the green ribbons/car stickers that are purchased and those which we would give in return for hard core donations.

Once you guys have decide exactly what you are doing let us know. I think it much better to organise something on going rather than a one off ad hoc but am willing to contribute either way

I will wait until the structure is sorted out, but I will be honored to participate in this noble effort.

Ok, i think there's a need for some clarification here.

One, let's be clear on one thing that people here in Pakistan will probably not start donating monies all of sudden for faujis, so i think for now we should only stay with the idea of selling green ribbon items. And for that to happen someone out of you has to take the responsibility for the preparation of these items. Forget the money, you guys would probably have to start it with your own pockets as a starter. Make a few dozen mugs, T-shirts, ribbons, car stickers etc, for that someone has to design it first, ofcourse the item he designs would bear his name.

Two, guys i cant be there on the ground for the obvious reasons. i cant have an account on my name or go around to printing presses. Ofcourse i will try to give you the details as regards to the families and other ideas.

As far as the members of committee is concerned i may be a part of it, but either WJ or SK has to take the charge. To do that you must ask for volunteers first, we must see how much manpower do we have to start with i.e. who can design the stuff, who can get it made etc.

You may not be able to sell these items directly from a shop initially, so these items might be sold online, and if so who is going to keep them, who is going to send them to the purchaser etc. So even before we setup an hierarchy, we must see all do we have on our team and for what purpose, so please do that first.

.
SK, i think TTs can close threads, so i would suggest you open another one and then start putting in the names of members who are ready to be part of the TEAM (excluding those who are going to donate/purchase) in the first post with their duties that they want to/can perform. Members can tell us here what assistance they can give and you can update that thread accordingly and then close it. Thereon we can decide upon the leader and other designations i.e. whose going to design the stuff, whose going to maintain the account, whose going to sell the items etc.

But before that the members of the team/committee must decide what all is to be made and in what quantity. Then someone should give us the cost basing on which we can decide upon the number of items to be prepared initially and then the members (and other donatees) can be asked to submit some amount or we can distribute the total cost among them. Until these initial items are not sold, we may not be able to go any further.

I suggest start it in UK.

1. Decide committee.

2. Register charity.-simple I have provided link earlier.-formulate constitution

3. bank account I can assist with HSBC.

4. Ask those who are prepared to give £1.00 or 2.00 per week or per month. set up standing orders

5. Have a competition to launch for logos on here etc

6. Set up offshoots in other countries. Use member from forum in other countries

7. Committee meet and decide where to donate etc

That surprises and saddens me. If the people in Pakistan are not going to care for their faujis, then who will? They have to be part of this effort, for it provides the foundation.

Correct.

Ofcourse we would need different guys in different countries to run the project. So that's why i asked for names of those who are ready to be part of the team. Thereafter we can decided who is going to head which country i.e. we will have more than one team with its own leader and then an overall chairman. So guys, volunteer!

I think car stickers are a good idea. We launched a hearts and minds campaign in KPK, back in 2010 when the **** had really hit the fan well and hard. Yellow stickers saying: "Pak Fauj aur Sarhad(Hadn't been changed to KPK then) Police ko Salam". They were all the rage and we actually ran out of stickers! Had to print more to keep up with the demands. Whereas people would love bashing the army in their drawing rooms, they will buy anything that has a message or in some way makes them seem patriotic, we could play on that mentality. Then get students over to your side. Target youngsters. Direct some very thought-provoking ads on Youtube and I could try and get them a spot on the media. This is of course a very ambitious plan, first we need to target Pakistanis in the UK, they've got money and they won't miss a couple of pounds per month. Give me some details and I can start approaching some acquaintances in the UK.
