Our troops have historically laid their lives down in our existence and have never been far away from confrontation since 14th August 1947. The sacrifices of many including their lives will most certainly NEVER be forgotten. In certain cases the ultimate sacrifice being of their lives. I think you will all agree Pakistan would not exist today without their bravery and sacrifices they gave.

I sometimes sit here admiring how much our nation has been dragged through and if I still would be sitting here as a proud Pakistani if our heroes hadn’t sacrificed so much for me to have the privilege.

Lately the saddest of incidents – the loss of the Siachen heroes has yet again shown the ultimate of sacrifices these souls make. Not forgetting the loved ones they leave behind. It is heart aching to imagine how it must feel like to lose a loved one in this way.

Most nations have what is called a “Yellow Ribbon Fund whose main aim is to ‘Thank you!” to our injured service members and their families for everything they have sacrificed on our behalf.
I think its about time we set something up for our own heroes and perhaps for obvious reasons call it the “Green Ribbon”.

Living 1000s of miles away it is frustrating not to be show and offer our support and sometimes our prayers are all we can offer. It would fill me with pride if I wore a green ribbon on my chest and wear it with pride. If there was a place to donate however small amount one wanted to donate I would gladly start organizing something along this line.

There are several serving members on the forum in the “Think Tank” brigade that have already voiced their appreciation of such an idea. This thread has been started to see if there is any interest from you guys and perhaps any suggestions in how we could move this project forward.

We must at all times be focused on what our land would be without the passion and desires of such brave hearts that have sacrificed so much.

Ultimately one must remember however small our efforts – unite all our efforts and potentially we could have a tsunami of support – and gentlemen this would make a difference to where it matters.
I will leave these thoughts with you to ponder.

Any sort of suggestion and input would be gratefully received.

Lately emotions have been running high. I must say my gratitude goes to anybody that has sacrificed life or limb and it would be a great gesture if we perhaps had a sticky thread on here to remind us of the constant sacrifices.
Perhaps set up a charity which strictly benefits the soldiers or their family...

A source of income for the families of soldiers is present within the army, paid for by the army from the budget, and sales made by the women themselves, like selling the home made rugs, clothes etc etc.

But a charity from Pakistan would be a good idea, but unfortunately, one has to keep in mind the state of the people of Pakistan, a person who earns around 60k might not have enough for a charity donation of about 500 or so.

Yaar - i am aware they are looked after. I am not in anyway suggesting a figure to donate - just a suggestion in particular for those who live abroad and want to make a difference in any small way.

Sir

Rest be assured, the Army takes care of her own. Due to our defence budget constraints, its next to impossible to fully fund the social security needs of the widows, orphans or our wounded soldiers. This is why the Army had setup several welfare trust companies whom are involved in the private sector, their profits are used entirely for welfare projects which benefits both ex military and civilians. Its not uncommon for the Army to provide housing, free education, scholarships for higher education and employment to the widows, orphans and our wounded soldiers. Although i do agree with you, a setup of charity for the welfare of our soldiers from the private sector is definitely a good idea.

Fauji foundation, APS school systems, the local ladies clubs of every unit, the local welfare trust, everything is for the soldiers.

Although a little charity fund could be made but then the old hawks will come in and say that this is robbery by the army , army being a government institution does not need charities and funds from the private sector.

good suggestion, the best way is to make it viral through players, celebrities and teachers and students and children, make videos upload on youtube and social networking sites..... must deal it like a project... and ribbons to be made available all over Pakistan for free, attractive enough that people like it to have it on their shirts... but honestly opinions are quite different, apart from Siachen what the Nation has gone through, I doubt if they have same opinion as your and others !!

I know Windjammer has spoken to someone at ISPR that would assist in anyway possible by pointing us in the right direction and suggest to us where it could be well utilized.

Dear, your input is highly appreciated, the idea is to do something at our own initiative, amongst the overseas Pakistanis.
Me and the boys have been involved in some work after the 2005 earth quake and then the floods, but now I feel we should do something for our brave soldiers, and since this is Pakistan Defence Forum, and seeing the sentiments of fellow members, I am sure some Think Tanks and Mods will be able to get the ball rolling. As the saying goes, every little helps.

.
This time round lets limit the fund to the Families of Siachen victims...
As they say every little helps.
No matter how small contribution we can make..it will show our gratitude and support for the families.

For UK and US residents..we all know that we have many things knocking around in our house, and we can sell them on ebay..The funds thus achieved can be sent over to the families of Siachen victims.?? Just an idea.

. .
I think its relatively a simple job to set up a charity in UK. Benefit being that any donation will attract tax relief

Top level - Start up a charity

An online charity shop? members may donate items they dont need? that will generate revenue without putting load on donors?

ebay is the right venue to sell the donations? and the donors can see how much their donated iem sells for so it will be transparent..

Where we will need help will be to channel the money to families of the soldiers.

This is an excellent idea, and one that would have my full support.
