Constitutional right is different from practicing it due to fear of being branded an outcast or traitor by your own countrymen. ask @Joe Shearer
Did he left it to you to determine what is right? If yes, pay my respect to him.
He taught my concepts on faith , on life and the importance of knowledge before action. "know everything about something, and something about everything". With all that covered and ONLY with knowing all of that , all the information I can get and knowledge I can gain, it is my judgement to do what I believe is right.
One cannot claim to do what is right in a situation they have zero idea about. Or listening to only one narrative; take the Kashmir crises.. there IS an Indian narrative that deserves a listen before a conclusion..and if a conclusion is reached; there must be actual facts.. verified the best possible way; before reaching a conclusion.
A similar approach was actually the basis for religious studies at the time of the origin of Islam, look at the extremist mad dogs today reaching conclusions based on half baked knowledge and ideas...
Of course, a good teacher knows where to stop and leave things on conscience of one individual which is build on some basic tenets. I admire all peer/gurus which left some space for "you" in you.
The extremist rabids dogs - islamist or non islamist, lack the conscience which was never build and thus looks for rules which are generally dogmatic and inflexible and taught by you know who. A guru dont make rules.
But you will always have people that support your ideas.And public evaluates that .Some will accept and rest will reject .But noone going to jail or death because of it
