I can't really reminiscence about the good old days, as frankly I am not that senior myself. However, I was a lurker for a few years before formally jumping in. The trolls have always existed, but I think the quality of the posts were mesmerizing, there was one particular Pakistani poster, who's posts were a joy to read. The back and forth debates of certain intelligent members was a good way for me to wind down after university (Yes, I know this probably sounds sad).
But recently, in the past few years, the vitriol has this menacing touch to it, that makes one hesitant to continue posting. For me personally, it became difficult to present my opinion on anything without at least one person getting personal.
I don't believe the overall quality will improve until the stated rules of the forum are enforced without bias, and by the mods etc themselves.
Edit: I should add I am no angel and have been quite guilty of doing the above myself when I have lost my temper.
Chill with the personal attacks bro. And then you complain why you get banned??You are literally a cuckold and have one foot in the grave. What does anything you say matter? You are like Hussain Haqqani on steroids for the forum.
This faggot @VCheng even exposed Elmo making her leave the forum like the old man perv that he is.
Not true. It was the opposite, but i will let you say it.Hi,
Neo was not a " Javed Hashmi "---he was a wonderful poster---very smart guy.
The webmaster at that time wanted to keep too much control over the members and wanted to look into what each member was doing---Neo disagreed and was let go or left---.
think the main problem with PDF is moderation team not able to give enough time or the need for more moderators.
Thats why i said according to some i have heard of his views being rather critical of providing certaim neighbours with too much freedom and getting axed for it from multiple forumsHi,

Pride would be real if there was a happy ending with the sheila for whom i did this shit but now there is a different sheila :-(You have made the Butt nation proud. Pai ki degh aapki hui.
You're ever so modest.

I think the main problem with PDF is moderation team not able to give enough time or the need for more moderators. If you have suggestions for people that fit the moderator criteria please let us know in the GHQ section. Better moderation = increased quality.

What does moderation actually mean in PDF? Banning, bullying (in some cases) and threatening the members ..... a display of position of authority and power in a virtual world .... or ...... a cool minded, neutral, unbiased, fair just person given a title to help others overcome with their hate, narrow mindedness and develop respect for opponents? Shouldn't it be a moderator reconstructing a hateful remark and showing it in more meaningful positive manner? I mean what good is the 'edit post' privilege and freedom of looking and monitoring everyone's posts if it is not to bring a positive change in a habitual troll? I am not saying that banning, issuing infractions and deleting the posts altogether are some evil features ....... they are necessary, but shouldn't those be the last sought solutions?
The real art and mastery is to fix a broken system with existing parts .......... replacing and adding new parts is no expertise. Favoritism, butter pasting and ganging up ........ should be the very first ones of the attitudes to vanish.
Oho
Aaj parathe jal gaye the.
Good points buddy. Just kidding.
A bad mod actually makes things worse than no mod.
Because groups by their nature are self correcting.
Cheers, Doc
Part of the problem with technical discussions is that how quickly they disintegrate into vicious India vs Pakistan vitriol.I remember discussion on missiles, radar specs, seekers, etc.
I wish you would come back. You were one of the better* ones among the younger set. Please think about it.
*"...better" in terms of moral fibre, as well as the more conventional attributes.

It's been 11 years on the forum for me, I can map a lot of personal checkpoints to my level of engagement with the forum in the last 11 years (my girl friend in 2008 used to suspect that I was cheating on her as I'd find excuses to spend time on the forum late at night than speak with her over the phone).
One key thing that I guess has changed is the degree of technical discussion on the fourm, it was way higher earlier. People like Gambit were fairly active on the forum and kept the science flowing. I remember discussion on missiles, radar specs, seekers, etc.
And rape please.Part of the problem with technical discussions is that how quickly they disintegrate into vicious India vs Pakistan vitriol.
Both sides are to blame here. For one, the Indian members, at this point, should know not to drag in a comparison with anything Indian (on Pakistani threads) or Pakistani (on Indian threads). For example, if there's a thread on a new motorcycle design in Pakistan, there's a bunch of posts with pictures of Indian motorcycles. The subtext is obvious to most Pakistani members, even if not explicitly stated by the Indian members.
The same occurs with Pakistani members - there's no need to respond to someone dragging India into a comparison, report the post and ignore it. There's also no need for Pakistanis members to drag India into a discussion (mocking the LCA on a thread talking about developments in the JF-17 for example).
Also, going forward, Pakistani members should understand that I will have ZERO tolerance towards comments such as 'Baniya', insults towards ANY religion etc. Those who might recall my position as moderator in the past should already know where I stand on this.
Finally, if we are to start improving the forum, we REALLY need the senior members on both sides to step back and start from a clean slate. I understand years of dealing with vitriol and attacks from the other side have disillusioned many, but try and resist the urge to engage in a sarcastic response or button pushing. Many of us are genuinely interested in civil debate and sarcastic one liners and derogatory generalizations (regardless of how well hidden) are just a recipe for further poisoning of the atmosphere.
@jhungary, Also I would like @niaz sir to contribute more. He is absent nowadays.Very thought provoking.
...and Penguin. He too kept the technical side of the forum wide awake.
