Makes no difference this is just short term -- once things settle done, it will be back to business as usual. I edited my post above and would mention in hear as well, China offers economy of scale, which U.S. and other nations can't offer. Even after talking about bring manufacturing back to the U.S. or India for Apple; they decided to stick with China because none other could offer what China can -- economy of scale: man power, industrial capacity, and raw material and logistics within the country.

Eventually, it'll be all talk.

I hear you but would suggest you go beyond that. It is not gonna be business as usual. China's labor advantage is gone but the supply chain advantage was making it tough to throw them out. Now the virus aftermath has given impetus to start looking for and building alternate chains.

China is under no obligation to keep Italy safe and vice versa. I'm sure there are a lot of rats in China, but not a single one's azz is given by Beijing.

In which parallel universe is this happening? Governments don't decide the rules of international trade, corporations do. Capitalism has no values and it holds no grudges. It's ONLY aim is to make the most money. So long as China continues to deliver cleap products to the world markets, it is UNTOUCHABLE.

The world isn't going to do shit to China, I'm saying that as an American, and U.S. is in no position to dictate China in the long-term. The American's also argued with Canada and ended up looking stupid from an economical point of view -- they required more North American steel which is fine -- however, in return Canada was able to increase it's exports to U.S. gaining more share and U.S. a very small share in the milk industry whereas the milk association came out and said all this was fruitless.

A lot can be done to punish China -- but it would require a smart and calculated leader -- not the duffar we have at the top.

Reading deeper into it Trumps deal made NAFTA even stronger and loosened ends -- whereas we are in the same position.

On top that and most importantly China offers economy of scale which as we've seen in this crisis U.S. couldn't even achieve.

Regardless of H1B Sanghi Indian support of Trump (which is bizarre and comical, these people don't even vote here!) - US is in NO position (like you said) to dictate terms to China. The Chinese have capable and smart leadership, whereas we in the US do NOT. We have seen with our own eyes how disciplined their response to the Pandemic was - irrespective of Breitbart propaganda.

Certainly the US is not incapable of it. It is called planning and action in a disaster scenario, as well as leadership at the top.

Clearly Tamizh Tamil Indians have never been to Shanghai or Beijing and have no clue where China is today. China's 2nd tier cities look like NYC nowadays. China is in a different league than India. Don't be a runt and be reaching for the moon....

you still haven't understood that the only ism America follows is Americanism. And that is pretty much defined by whatever America feels in its interest it is. It is very unfair for all other countries but that is the reality. It has been for a while now.

Nature is not fair and equitable. Humans are not fair and equitable. America is the current eon's chief beneficiary of these. Hence US$. hence US oil sufficiency. Hence US IVY. Hence NASDAQ. Unfortunately Hence Clinton Bush Obama and Trump. But as I said, it is neither fair nor equitable. Just such resource and brain rich.

And in a strange way that is what also made Americans of the past very generous to the world's poor sick and destitute. But then when China or Pakistan or PLA start taking advantage, the generosity starts dwindling. Because generosity should not be mistaken for weakness.
