Really? You constantly see threads here about skin color and chaste sytem, race and IQ. I guess that must be a different South Asia. India is rather racially homogenious, its ethnic groups that are discriminated against. We hear so often of the dreaded Dalits.
India is perhaps the most culturally diverse nation in the world. There are plenty of subcultures with many differences. Bengali culture for instance is quite different from that of Punjabi culture. Including language.
Dalits are not an ethnic group. They are a caste.
And race is not a Westen concept any more than biological classification is a western concept.
The point once again: Europe has managed to unite into a peaceful economic unit, putting aside their differences. Something India has failed to do with its neighbors.
Well, Europe has come a long way. Yes, it has a bloody history. But it has achieved peace after WWII. Even instigating trade between traditionally hostile states like France and Germany. It most certainly did raise living standards, peace and most importantly - unity.
About India, there is a saying in my country: Bharot e pasher takhle, oi desher shomosha shobshomoy thakbe.
It is a burden living near that country. It doesn't have great relations with a single country in its immediate neighborhood. Be it Pakistan or Sri Lanka. Nepal and Bhutan are all but vassal states.
Suffice to say, given the Indian subcontinent's huge population and decent level of resources, it's inter-regional trade is dismal compared to even ASEAN. I'm not even going to compare that to the EU.
Your whole argument is based off an unachieveble utopia. Racism/ethnocentrism always exits, and certainly does so in India.
I still believe compared to North America, Asia, Latin America; Europe has the highest living standards, and tries the best to give its immigrants/minorities rights.
Something the Arabs, Chinese, Japanese, Iranians lag behind in.
Actually, it is in North America where people of different cultural and religious backgrounds mix better compared to Europe.
I can say that from first hand experience. After all, present day North America are of immigrant heritage for the most part.
The Japanese are a very homogeneous and a high context culture. This similarly can be said about Arabs.
Some people mix in with foreign origin people better. Others don't.
Anyway, If Europe had less muslims, Jews, like they do in East Asia, it would have been more peaceful.
East Asia has a peaceful history? Come on. Ever knew how wicked those Far Eastern Asians were? Sheesh...
Add the bloody Mongols to that.
Muslim migration into Europe is only recent. Jews on the other hand were simply made scapegoats by Hitler in reflection to Germany's problems at the time. Nothing more, nothing less.
