What's new

What is SAP? and what certification to start with for a newbie in the field?

no no , there is lots of potential in IT in North America and Europe but it depends on what field you choose in IT. Telecom related IT is quite slow right now but supply chain management and ERP is very hot, specially with companies looking to reduce cost and substitute man power with technology. I myself started with a basic degree in software Engineering, then branched out into ERP, did my SAP certifications in SCM modules, got my PM certification and then did a masters in Information Systems. Now i work in Supply Chain Management as a purchaser. There is a lot of scope but you have to choose your field properly, dont follow the herd.

True and it is always easy for experienced peoples to get another job but the real problem is for beginners who will be lacking WORK EXPERIENCE.

I was in IT for about 3 years and then i decided to change my course to accounting. You can earn more money in this field and it is easy to get a job anywhere in the world.

There is too much competition in european countries in IT sector. It is not easy to get a job here in IT sector. You can get one if you have CS degree but it is not easy to get a job only on certifications (which is not a qualification).

nah, i want to get at least a bachelor degree which i will get after spending 4 years in college.

i am thinking to get in computer science, but i heard there is a lot of math involved in it. So i am just afraid from math.

Hey, what do you think about getting master in Information System? it does not have a lot of math.

Though maths is important, you should be very good at logical reasoning/analysis too....infact its more important

Now when you say Logic and reasoning, can you tell me more little bit more on it?

Here in US, they say i would have to take calculus, trigonometry, pre-calculus to major in computer scince. :cry:

.
Hey, can anyone tell me, how much math is involved in computer science??

because i suck at math. and i am really worried, if i will be able to get at least bachelor in computer science.

Also is Computer science same as Computer forensics???

Since i want to work for FBI/CIA, How can i get into that??

If you suck at Math, you cannot do any serious Computer Science. You can still get into IT and work in some enterprise company and do some Object Oriented Programming.

See, the thing is Computer Science is not the same as Information Tech. To do most of the shitty enterprise programming, most of your work will be centered around objects and methods (OR VARIANTS). Most of the stuff is very well encapsulated. That's IT, that's application for you.

But what about Computer Science. We recently recruited a C programmer for our company. One of the main questions on the test was this :

Write a program that outputs all prime numbers from 1-10000.

Simple, no?

Well, almost everyone answered that one, but we selected only one guy. How? because only that one guy had a good answer. Here was the logic behind his solution.

let c be a composite number such that p*q = c, then q*p must also be equal to c. Also, if p < sq.root(c), then q > sq.root(c). If both of them are greater than sq.root(c), the product will be bigger than c, likewise if both are lesser than sq.root(c), the product will less than c.

So basically, to check if a number between 100-10000 is prime, all we need to do is check if its divisible by a prime number from 1-100, because if it's not, it will also not be divisible by a prime number from 100 to 10000. Likewise, to generate the prime numbers from 10-100, only need to check against primes from 1-10.

In implementation, this is what that looks like.

2 is prime -> list.
3 is prime ->
for numbers from 3-9, only check against 2. So 5 is prime, 7 is prime.
for numbers from 9 to 25, only check against 2 and 3
for numbers between 25 and 49, only check 2,3,5.
for numbers between 49 and 121, only check 2,3,5,7.
and so on!

Basically ALL this math. Now that I've done the math for you, even a noob can write a C-program to solve it.

This is just a SIMPLE problem.

Building Math skills is pretty much like building your body bro. When I started I could only deadlift 70 pounds. Today I can do 1 rep of 400.

You need to focus on your core, use internet, use discussion forums, enjoy Math and do your learning. People from the subcontinent are usually good at Math.

or you can do what i did :P read my post above for guidance, dont worry math wasnt my strongest subject also lol

I am sure you are making a lot of money, I've all respect for you. But that is not computer science, that is IT.

you have to choose your field properly, IT is a huge field and has lots of job opportunities. Its a fact that ERP professionals make much more than programmers or many software engineering folk. Getting into PM or consultancy can be a very very rewarding career choice.

If you have just passed Comptia A+

You should go for Cisco CCNA and then Cisco CCNP. If you still have some time then go for Comptia RFID+ and if more time left then Server+

find a job and start working. If you have more time then go for some microsoft courses like MCSE or MISSP :D

Trust me RFID+ is going to be very interesting subject and you will have plenty of job opportunities in future

or last option is go for professional course like CS and not these certificates

Zaki, I have CCNA , CCNP, CCIE (W) in rns and security,CCIP,JNCIA,JNCIS(Routing),JNCIS(security),MCSE,CEH,CHFI but struglling for a decent job so i would not recomend any one for IT now.
@Desi Guy
Computer Forensic is vrey different than Computer Science. You need to learn lots of security to learn forensic.You may go for CHFI

the words computer science and IT go together nowdays, from my experience the fields are starting to merge at the management level and programming related activities are being outsourced. Its wiser now to pursue IT directly as a profession as programming and pure computer engineering are no longer very attractive fields in Europe and North America mainly due to competition from India etc. If one plans to grow in the longer run in an organization pursuing IT related certifications and degrees is a must.

Glad to know about CEH but RFID+ is still missing :azn:

and read my other posts i also agreed that it is not easy to get a job in IT sector nowadays. I thought he is in Pakistan and there is a scope of IT in Pakistan as it is still not developed like India and if you are abroad it was completely time waste it is not easy to get a job in IT as long as you don't have real qualifications like CS. These are just certificates that you can even pass by using your personal computer only. But the leading IT companies looking for qualifications along with these certificates.
