Hmm, and then the Indian members claim that my city (Hong Kong) is only a first-world city because of the British colonialism.

Indians should know better than anyone else, that the British colonialists only took, they never gave.

And it also doesn't explain why Shanghai (despite not being a colony) is now arguably more advanced than even Hong Kong.

Not only Shanghai, but Beijing is there too. Within five to ten years, Shenzhen will be more advance than HK. IT took the Brit 150 years to modernize HK at the time when they had absolute power. China took 20 years for Shanghai. Shenzhen was a village in 1988.

Back then they didn't even consider non-whites to be humans.

The Native Americans for example were considered to be "inhuman savages", the European colonists used to hunt them down, and cut off their scalp to make tobacco pouches. Just like they would for an animal.

In Hong Kong, my history teacher (he was British himself) said that in the past, when a British person ran over a HK Chinese local with a car, it would be a good idea to reverse back over him and finish the job. Because if you killed him you only had to pay for his funeral, but if he was left alive they would have to pay much more for his medical bills.

That's how they saw non-whites back then. Hell, back then they didn't even care much for other whites (Germans/Russians/Polish), so it's hardly surprising that they didn't consider non-whites like Native Americans as humans in the first place.

They have done some good things as well like abolishing caste system, gave you a proper legal system, competent army, introduced concept of civil services and proper legal systems as well as concept of democracy and good railways system and civil engineering work and brought education reforms. It does not take much to accept that you are at fault here. There is no way you can justify or condone British colonial rule and the lack of justice in that regard.

Sher Shah Suri was a better adminstrator in the medieval India. We follow a mix of Ashoka's ideology and Akbar's admin setup as inspiration in today's India. Only the nomenclature is English. That is also only because it is a neutral language that is understood all over the country (especially with the growing literacy/education).
