Vietnamese news portal Thanh Vien online has reported that Vietnam People's Air Force Sukhoi Su-27 'Flankers' have mounted their first patrols of the disputed Spratly Islands (Link is in Vietnamese) from their base at Phu Cat.

The Su-27s, from the 940th Air Regiment of the 372 Air Division, undertook at patrol of some of the islands claimed by Vietnam at an altitude of 500m (1640 ft), accompanied by an Antonov An-26 of the 918th Transport Regiment.

The disputed Spratly Islands, believed to be rich in oil and other resources, are wholly or partly claimed by China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Brunei.

. . . .
About time these nations should stand up for acquiring resources on equal basis with China than giving it all away to China.

UNITED WE STAND....... DEVIDED WE FALL.....

THESE SMALLER NATIONS DIDNT STAND CHANCE AGAINST CHINA UNLESS & UNTILL THEY ARE UNITED ON THE COMMON AGENDA OF DEFENDING THEM SELFES AGAINST CHINA.

BETTER THEY FORM A BLOCK OF NATIONS WITH COMMON INTERESTS.

. .
What are the capabilities of these planes and How Many will Vietnam get ?

Now, yes, Viet actually occupy many islands!!
In fact, I am also angry about these, But I also hope chinese and china government can be patient, bide time!! We have tolerated these for more than hundred of years, why not another ten years! it is not too long! If you want, you can get more, just record what they rob!

lol these incompetent hindis and cheerleading this funy news```i guess you need to express your stress after learning superior China has launched SZ-9, and your sorry 'indeginous' engine has to put out the flame````

Since US backed off frm supporting Phillipines, what else do we expect....a stand off?....China will go on further in exploration.....Lets hope action against their hegemony be taken soon.

huh? Since when?

Sorry Chinese friends, this news isn't related to China. You should not be jumping up and down. Chinese shouldn't interfere in internal affairs of VN.
Vietnam control Spratly Islands long time, while China has never controlled the islands.

dude, let's just remember one simple fact:

Hanoi is less than 300km away from our border, when necessary we can wipe it out without using air force/navy. Period.

btw: the number of our 4th generation fighters are actually more than your number of missiles.
