We never judge somebody by his blood but by culture and common sense.
If you can speak Chinese or local dialect, you can also claim yourself Chinese.

My wife`s family has relatives from Guangxi.
I think Chinese in Guangxi has more blood relation with Vietnamese than with us.
Yet they are firm Chinese just like us.
We have different dialects but now all speak Mandarin..

As a Cantonese, I feel funny and interesting to be taught our own history by Vietnamese. Most of Cantonese family have the specific recorded book about the ancestors migration route and their names,in fact,this is the Han Chinese old tradition,so we obvilously know our history.We do not need to make up some fake history like your people to hide your sad history.In Vietnam,the saying about Cantonese are vietnamese is very popular.Although we share very similar culture,that saying is far far far beyond the fact.

Guangdong (广东) alone is a trillion US$ economy, economically speaking there can hardly be any fair comparison bro. Guangdong-Guangxi has GDP of $ 1.34 trillion, ranking it 13th in the world after Australia (12th), outplacing South Korea (14th) and Spain (15th). If you add the other two Cantonese-dominated economies - Hong Kong and Macau - then even bigger gap.

But still the Yangtze delta is more developed

• Jiangsu/江苏 province with way less population, alone has GDP of $ 1.04 trillion.
• The whole delta (Shanghai where I am from, + Jiangsu/江苏 + Zhejiang/浙江) has GDP of $ 2.1 trillion.
• If Yangtze delta is a country, we rank 8th in the world, surpassing Italy, Russia and India.

No hard feeling bro ...

In Shanghai, we hope we can match/surpass Hong Kong (& Singapore, Macau) in per capita basis very soon.
