I don't see non-Muslim countries celebrating our traditions and festivals, so why would we?
Fantastic move.
We have our own way of life and any Muslim who tries in anyway to challenging this, is going against the creator.

Hmm... So your idea/ contention is .. that why do parents/ families butt in, when the natural order of things is two individuals being attracted to each other and making their decision for themselves ... In your opinion that's a natural way of doing things. Gotta hand it to ya, a good question that makes one think.

The simple answer would be protection. Protection is the reason for checks and balances, where elders are loaded with the responsibility of marrying their children to a suitable guy or a gal. Why? because you need some rationality at the table. Ultimately, the decision is still up to the guy and the gal, where they have every right to say yes or no.
The trade off is protection in the long terms for a bit of freedom where things such as experience and rationality of the elders maximizes the potential for a successful marriage. Now of course, there are people who try to take advantage of this system, in order to benefit their families etc. and force their children to marry such and such, which is why the last decision maker is the individual.

Coming to the point of the "natural way of things". How do we define "natural" ? People who support certain behaviors cite the examples of animals who exhibit said behavior as a natural thing.Well, if animals are the true representation of what's natural, we know species of monkeys like Orangutans are known to 'force mate' with the females. The question now becomes, what is the compass that determines whats natural and whats not ? My opinion is that a person's values are what determine, what's natural for that person and the culture acts as an oversight, setting in stone as to whats natural in that society.

So if your a conservative living in a christian household where you agree with the values of Christianity, your most likely to date and abstain before you go out and marry. If your more of a free spirit, your more likely to have many relationships, and then settle down with one. The US allows this kind of behavior because at a societal level, they think freedom to this extent is natural because they agree to such a system (majority). However, the fruits of such a system are "baby mamas" and kids who haven't seen their dads their whole life, or dads who have to pay child support without even being biological fathers to a child etc. Like I said the divorce rate is through the roof when it comes to such countries. In terms of research, kids from a stable household are more likely to do better at school and at life in general. Again, we come to the trade off, which in this case would be freedom in dating for a high possibility of life changing repercussions in the future for both this and the next generation.

As a country, we've decided that our betterment is in a societal system, that protects our current and future generations. Freedom has it's tradeoff's and in our case we think the trade off isn't worth it ...
Ah the old balance and harmony in society argument that always tends to support status quo no matter how harmful it is... I like balance too, I dont want to live in a country where there is anarchy.. may be lot of failed marriages in USA.. but i live in UK, and this society seems to have perfect balance that supports creativity by empowering individuals... there are many middle income / poor countries where falling in love and marrying your partner is perfectly natural..
Since we seem to get the advantage of harmony in society by listening to higher powers and not questioning their authority(they love us), we lose out on being thinking functioning member of society for a long time. Its not unnatural for 30 year old to remain dependent on their parents to take life decision.
And lets not pretend the loving parents have no self interest in this(driven by keeping balance in society), they groom the kids to remain dependent for as long as possible, marriage brings realignment of power balance and they tend to decide on a girl who is always going to say 'yes'. Plus there is prestige and biradri thing, you dont want to cut off from network because the society is build along those lines.

If my only goal to marry is to create children, and make sure they become an insurance policy for me, sure, this seems to be the perfect scheme. I will decide as much as possible for them till I die, because I fear they will not respect me once the control is gone.. they will probably throw me in old age home.
No wonder them moment kids go outside the country, they realize how they missed the freedom, freedom to choose your own partner that you will spend your life with. Parents giving some options and you saying yes/no is not really choosing, its not a multiple choice question.
Parents themslves know little about their children(your friends and siblings know much more) and out of place with future/new reality always. Again, nothing wrong in helping kids(that happens everywhere, even free countries), but being a control/choke point is the issue.

As to whether whether doing natural way is always right, I never said so, I simply said the phenomena is natural, and in line with expectation of how most human will behave given half a chance. Research should be done the cases where it is not.

You want to observe Ramadan ? Speaking for the US, there are no laws banning the Islamic practice of Ramadan. If some Pakistanis want to enjoy Valentine's Day ? Let them.

thank god the IHC is taking immediate notice of such ideologically threatening practices to the state of Pakistan.
all such activities which promote love and peace must be banned to protect our cultural and ideological sanctity.
while they're on it, any couples named laila majnu and heer ranjha should be put in lock up at the earliest, as ive heard they not only love on valentines day, but have been loving throughout history! outrageous!

Flying is a Western invention, and not a Muslim tradition,
yet Pakistan Air Force is doing just that.
Will there be a Fatwa vs JF-17?

Some seven centuries after the death of Firnas, the Moroccan historian Ahmed Mohammed al-Maqqari (d. 1632) wrote a description of Firnas that included the following:[6]

Among other very curious experiments which he made, one is his trying to fly. He covered himself with feathers for the purpose, attached a couple of wings to his body, and, getting on an eminence, flung himself down into the air, when according to the testimony of several trustworthy writers who witnessed the performance, he flew a considerable distance, as if he had been a bird, but, in alighting again on the place whence he had started, his back was very much hurt, for not knowing that birds when they alight come down upon their tails, he forgot to provide himself with one.[5]

Al-Maqqari is said to have used in his history works "many early sources no longer extant", but in the case of Firnas, he does not cite his sources for the details of the reputed flight, though he does claim that one verse in a 9th-century Arab poem is actually an allusion to Firnas's flight. The poem was written by Mu'min ibn Said, a court poet of Córdoba under Muhammad I (d. 886), who was acquainted with and usually critical of Ibn Firnas.[5] The pertinent verse runs: "He flew faster than the phoenix in his flight when he dressed his body in the feathers of a vulture."[6] No other surviving sources refer to the event.[7]

It has been suggested that Ibn Firnas's attempt at glider flight might have inspired the attempt by Eilmer of Malmesbury between 1000 and 1010 in England,[8] but there is no evidence supporting this hypothesis.[5]

Grow up, everything you are enjoying nowadays is either from Islamic world or from Nazis.

Lol.....Any idea when a similar ban will be placed on the filth of the Lal Masjid?

Oh well, at least they can get hold of those pesky card and flower givers.

Somehow Icarus of Greek mythology preceeds Islam by 2,000 years.
The fact that someone else violated Muslim traditions before does not make it a Muslim tradition.

I bet it can be shown that many more Muslims celebrated Valentine's day before.

pakistan has to ban it, i been there seen it with my own eyes folks there are so tharki i had to change my summer quarter shorts to sharwaz kameez. even women are like hawks eyeing you up.

trust me there are really stupid people in pakistan. One example they think that in india everyone is rich becuase they saw some bollyood movie showing rich people.

The best one is coming to england, they think they going to be served tea by a english guy with smile and be nominated to work in a office. Instead end up in some run down factory or take away,
crying thier eyes out and ringing home to say mikay boo kam karanay, miki pakistan mori karoo, ticket kaatao. too much romance not enough critcial thinking in pakistan.

Vallentines day is stupid.
There is nothing good in it.

Say no to Valentine's day.
Time to hold a protest against Valentine's day!
A day full of immorality!

Well the answer to your question would be that America is a secular country, while Pakistan is a Islamic country. Different rules and approaches.

Russia:
The governor of Russia's Belgorod province banned Valentine's Day in 2011. Authorities argue the ban is to preserve "spiritual security."

Florida:
This year, the principal of Lake Nona High School has banned public celebration of the holiday. Any student who walks into school with balloons, teddy bears or flowers will be forced to surrender them in the principal's office. All deliveries of gifts will be rejected. Other high schools in the area have followed suit in enforcing the ban.

If some Russians or Americans at Florida want to enjoy Valentine's Day ? Let them. :D

Regards

Then why Valentine's Day ?

So essentially, you are equating the Pakistani's ban of Valentine's Day to that of a childish overreacting to offending children. :enjoy:
