It was said that had America not taken the Philippines from the Spanish then the Japanese Empire would have taken the Philippines. Man, when you lose a war, you are done, the Spanish fleet in the Pacific was destroyed by the Americans at the Battle of Manila Bay, what do you expect Spain to do after that? The Americans demanded the Philippines and Guam, they imposed the conditions and Spain had to accept, no other choice. And yes, what happened after that was pretty bad for PH.

They losing to us before the American ever came we had control over 90% of Luzon alone the Spanish navy was the only thing getting on the way and since our small navy was just bunch of steam lunchers and small tender ships we could not fight the Spanish navy luckly for us the Americans went to war with Spain.

And About America demanding things, The Yanks at first was not sure what they wanted in this side in the world some just wanted manila some just Luzon but we made it clear to them we wanted total Independence so we move our capital from Cavite to Malolos away from the Americans and it just went down hill from there next we knew the Americans landed troops at first coordinated with us we each others as allies well not in paper but in fact but soon after the hold out surrender to the Americans because the spanish were afraid of us that we would be not civil to them which i think is just racist because the battle of baler prove otherwise so as we advance in manila and surrounded intramuros with trenches the Americans had troops on the ground but only a few and they ask us to give the led trenche to them so they can start their advance to the gates intramorus which we did and followed but we did not know they already had a agreement with the spanish holdouts to put out a show for the sake of their so called honor and they will surrender only to the Americans not to us so now Yorktown victorty for us so long story short we advance and wanted the to enter the city with the Americans the Americans told us to stop at enterance of the city we thinking werid but ok so we stop at the entrance and we send officers to represent the Philippines but remember the spanish made deal with the Americans that no filipino can enter the walled city of intramuros so we just sit took the victory of the yanks as our own and took the rest of manila while the yanks have intramuros and few months later because of shooting incident that no one was clear how it started started the Philippine American war.

So in short we did all the work the Americans fought spanish navy we were denied our victory at intramuros and to add insult

With the expection of governor de la torr who was great leader diplomatic socialble etc well he was a liberal and at his charge we under republician Spain , while the majority before him and after were typical tyrannical arrogant racist and majority of it was terrible no justice really if your indio which the majority of filipinos back then good luck living we got force labor, land tax religious taxs etc but i got better if your member of the ilustrados (educated middle class filipinos) or insulares (spanairds born in the Philippines or even better if were peninsulares (spanairds born in Spain) and the focal point of our problem with madre espania was the religious orders most of them were very corrupt and very powerful in fact that was the main points of problems in the Philippines and main reason why the propaganda movement came about and later the revolution of 1896 but we have spaniards were supports of filipinos and even led filipinos in the propaganda movement and later revolution so as a people we hate the people who have wrong us not all of them. Yes but bobo is cursing so dont use it and its purely a filipino word and madre is just word mother only the chavacano and spanish speaking people use words like that its not common anymore kinda like french in Vietnam but like your country we trying to recover our spanish heritage and chavacano is still being spoken especially in Zamboaga City and ternate cavite and some places in cotabatao city.

Interesting. Bobo is an Spanish word, but its just a light version of stupid, its often used with children, etc. Its considered quite soft and its often used in jokes.

When I was in USA, I used to have a Filipino employee from Cebu and she used to speak some Spanish, she used to tell me that some people in her village still speak some Spanish.
