BEIJING, China, – UN refugee chief Filippo Grandi today highlighted China’s potential to address the root causes of displacement and resolve refugee crises globally through wide-ranging development initiatives.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees is in Beijing this week on his first official visit to China. In the last two days he has met with top government officials, UNHCR’s Goodwill Ambassador Yao Chen, and addressed future diplomats at the China Foreign Affairs University.

“UNHCR and China have been cooperating for 40 years. During that time China has become a major actor on the international stage,” said Grandi. “The global refugee issue has also grown bigger and more complicated as factors causing people to flee are increasingly mixed.”

“We hope that China can invest ... resources directly in countries hosting large numbers of refugees.”

Reflecting these needs, China’s contribution to refugee programmes has increased significantly – from US$2.8 million in 2016 to US$12.5 million so far this year, much of it on the sidelines of the recent “Belt and Road” forum held in Beijing.

Led by China, the Belt and Road initiative is a far-reaching platform for international cooperation in multiple sectors including trade, investment, infrastructure, connectivity and people-to-people exchanges. It spans more than 60 countries in Asia, Europe and Africa – some of which are producing or hosting refugees.

“The Belt and Road initiative is about peace, prosperity and inclusion,” said Grandi. “We hope that China can invest some of those resources directly in countries hosting large numbers of refugees and displaced people. In doing so, it can empower refugees and their host communities in a win-win situation for all.”

The initiative also has the potential to pave the way for refugee solutions, the High Commissioner noted. “Through its many development projects, China can help to stabilize areas in conflict and address the root causes of displacement.”

Grandi noted that soft power was equally important in changing attitudes towards refugees, as Chinese actress Yao Chen has done. Through her 80 million-strong social media following in China, she has been a strong voice for refugees in the last seven years.

During their meeting on Wednesday, Grandi thanked her for advocating on behalf of refugees, and presented her with a certificate renewing her tenure as Goodwill Ambassador for two more years.

“I remain committed to the refugee cause for as long as I’m needed,” said Yao Chen. “But I long for the day I become ‘unemployed’ when there are no longer refugees in the world.”

1. Real refugees should be accepted, but in the right and fair amount. All countries should participate on it so that the burdon is shared by every country. Its the right of every human to flee from war and accepted as refugees.

2. It has to be strong and strict security and identity check before taking refugees. Dont make the mistake germany did. No open borders and no "welcome all" culture. Or else China will be flooded with illiterated, demanding, unrespectfull, perky, crimal fake refugees.
Beside if this, the country in war should be assisted in every form to regain stability. This benefits the stability in the region and in the world.

Conclusion:
Refugees to China? Yes, in the right amount and with strict checkings.
Assistance to the involved country.

Chinese are very smart people. They have come a long way and now are the one of the world's most powerful nation. So they know very well, how western countries can hurt them by raising human issues. Glad to know Chinese people are aware of the danger saudi refugeed carry with them. I am pretty sure nothing would stop China now because they have started thinking like a superpower. No f***ing emotions

Pfft. Why is this news? Their country and they can do whatever they want? Want our experience. We hosted 3 million registered and millions unregistered and all we got in return were terrorist attacks, drugs, guns, chaos and more enemies. Heck the very refugees are in power of that state and are cursing us. So I say. Smartest thing ever.

Absolutely Right. Its not the people, religion or any country. These people are brain washed at such a high level that they kill their fellow brothers and sisters bombing their own mosques in the name of God.

If you compare, the country welcoming them with open arms doesnt even hold the chance to get spared.

They go and they hava a blast.

I am very sorry for the loss of ur countrymen

Why China? Why not ask all the rich countries around the corner where the vast majority of these refugees come from to invest?
Most of them don't or barely invest into support of refugees.
Why not ask all the rich countries around the corner to take refugees and lessen the burden of those who takes?
Most of them have barely taken any refugees.
Adressing the root causes?
How would blindly investing money on nations indirectly affected by the mess of U.S./Israel/Saudi/Turkish/... backed "humanitarian" regime changes, destablization and growth of terror cells, address any root cause?

If everyone around the affected areas did their best to resolve the situation to the benefit of the people and not in their own geostrategic, economic and religious personal interests and then I could understand reaching out to China of all places for a helping hand.

What exactly are the root causes?
Apparently,it is war.

Do not fool yourself. There is no way to check these refugees. US government can not make it , let alone China. Do you forget what happened in Xinjiang province?
The only way to take care of these questions is to stop the war and send them home.
And never incite these silly people to reviot against their government again.

BEIRUT – China's Foreign Minister called for a political solution to end Syria's six-year crisis on Friday, saying that once the country's security conditions begin to improve refugees will start returning to their country. Foreign Minister Wang Yi made his comments in Beirut during a news conference with his Lebanese counterpart, Gibran Bassil.

Some 1.5 million Syrian refugees who fled their country's conflict are believed to be living in Lebanon, equal to about a third of the Mediterranean country's population of 4.5 million people. Bassil described the presence of refugees as an "existential threat" to Lebanon calling for a swift return of refugees to their country.

Wang said that China has given Beirut aid in the past "and we will continue to give such assistance to Lebanon in accordance with Lebanon's needs."

"There should be a roadmap for a solution in Syria and for that all parties should put the interest of the Syrian state and people first," Wang said.

"As the situation improves in Syria it is natural that the refugees begin to return to their country."

Bassil said that China has become the top exporter to Lebanon and as he spoke about the country's oil and gas sector, the Lebanese official said "we call on Chinese companies as of now to contribute and invest in this field." Some 51 companies have qualified to submit bids in Lebanon's first offshore oil and gas licensing round, with contracts set to be signed in November.

BEIJING (Sputnik) — China maintains contacts with all parties to the Syrian conflict in order to achieve a political settlement through peace talks, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Syrian Issue Xie Xiaoyan said.

"We are in touch with the Syrian government, the opposition, the regional countries, and other powers that are either directly, or indirectly, involved in the Syrian issue, and this is our advantage in mediation," Xie said Saturday during his visit to Damascus, as quoted by Xinhua news agency.

The Chinese official stressed that Beijing remained committed to political reconciliation process.

Speaking about the establishment of the de-escalation zones in Syria, Xie pointed out that it was an important step in the crisis settlement.

The Chinese special envoy highlighted that there was no quick solution to the Syrian problem, and called on the all involved to make efforts to settle the issue.

"China has patience and confidence to advance settlement of the Syrian issue on the right track through concrete work, so that the crisis could gradually ease before it is finally resolved," he added.

Syria has been in a grip of civil war for six years, with government forces fighting against both Syrian opposition groups who strive to overthrow President Bashar Assad, and numerous extremist and terrorist groups such as the Islamic State (Daesh) and Jabhat Fatah al Sham.

At the latest Astana meeting on Syria on May 3-4, three ceasefire guarantor states — Russia, Iran, Turkey — finalized and signed a memorandum on establishment of four safe zones in Syria. The four zones span the northwestern Idlib province and parts of the neighboring Latakia, Hama and Aleppo, the north of the central Homs province, Eastern Ghouta near Damascus, as well as southern Daraa and Quneitra regions. The memorandum came into force on May 6.

China didn't create those wars nor profit from them, the UN refugee chief is speaking to the wrong country.
right on. western countries have bred generations of hypocrites, who have no brain and no guts to point out the true perpetrators, but have skillful tongues to reel in victims one after another.
