Rediff On The NeT: IAF doctrine prepares for Star Wars era

An IAF for the Future: Some Considerations

Read the conclusion in the 2nd one

IAF aims to win the future wars using AIR POWER and to win it QUICKLY

This is why over the next 10 years IAF will see

Typhoon
MORE SU30MKI
Globemasters
C130
More AWACS
Long rane BVRS like meteore & R77 ramjet & astra
Long range strike weapons brahmos. nirbhay, scalp, storm shadow etc.

DOCTRINE IS TO WIN QUICKLY

It looks like our doctrine is to eliminate the enemy from world map quickly, maybe that's why we have huge N-Stocks

Well to be honest, the CSD is an all-encompassing doctrine and not IA specific, it has clear plans for IAF and (limited) IN as well. In this sense the IAF's role would be to rapidly achieve air superiority and then support the IA mechanised forces as they push deeply into enemy territory in the form of CAS. Additionally the IAF would support the IA in providing tactical transport where needed.

Darn! I thought the thread was about the Israeli military doctrine!!

. .
I think Pakistan security establishment must revisit its strategy of countering CSD with tactical nukes. An efficient AF would do the job with much more effectively. With a rapid modernization of IAF, future challenges for PAF would be mammoth.

@Smart Force: Thanks for article. I would appreciate more material on the topic.

I read some where IAF hope to have 50 fighter sqds in service after 2025

I imagine this will coincide with india,s emergence as the 4th Biggest GDP by then

Currently 9th biggest GDP and 33 sqds in service and falling

There is a keen interest in IAF about having a force projection capability by acquiring strategic air lift capability. This is known fact. What I am interested in is to what end in context of CSD or any other joint military doctrine with Indian army having massive armour thrust capability. Only conclusion i can draw is to have a strategy to make inroads by using those armour thrust at multiple places along the border then bring this strategic air lift capability into play to facilitate the infantry divisions/ units.

Any other idea on this particular capacity building which is going on in Indian Air Force? Where IAF stands in this capacity with respect to PAF and PLAAF.

Initial job of IAF would be SEAD, DEAD, EW and jamming of communications to make the enemy blind. Then it will be softening of targets along with achieving Air Superiority, if not air dominance. This will allow us to break any coordination of the enemy to launch a counter-attack and freely allow the ground forces to move forward punching holes in the defensive lines of the enemy.

IAF's doctorine has to be one step ahead than IA, coz only after air superiority is achieved Army can play else army is going to land in trouble...
