Underground wastewater treatment plants help make Chinese city's water clearer

.
When I was a child, every river, canal and lake in Beijing was so polluted covering with toxic chemical foam, people can not even see water cause it's totally covered by garbage. you smelled the rivers before you can see them cause they all stinked to the heavens. Back then Beijing also suffered severe water shortage and many rivers ran dry.

Now Beijing is flowing with clean rivers, canals and lakes everywhere, water is plentiful, waters are all very clean and many rivers you can see through to the bottom. The change is just mindblowing.

Chinese leaders make policies with an eye for the future of 10 years, 20 years even 50 years, US politicians never look beyond the 4 years election time frame.

More important to know is how the change happened

If they did that your waters wouldn't have been allowed to be so horribly polluted in the first place.

Here's some animals swimming in the city areas of some of the US's most "short-sighted" politicians.

Whales in NYC

Dolphins swimming in the rivers of NYC

Whales in the rivers of San Francisco

Whales swimming in Boston harbor next to Boston's Waste Water treatment plant.

Dolphins swimming in the Potomac River in Washington DC.

It's easy to show birds in waterways...but how is the Whale population in the harbors of your busiest coastal urban centers?

They are absolutely smart, I should say. Some even reelect himself in a "one" -man, one vote system. With 100% of a single vote cast in favor. That's darn smart to design such a system. I do not think US politicians, who have to peddle to the whims of individual man, cannot come being near visionary or smart.

Must be extremely visionary man in China, given that in a land of 1.4 billion, no other potentially smart man exist.

.
The reason of China pollution is because -- she import all the western nation factory -- deepening industrialization. If west runs these factories on their own land, west will have horrible PM2.5 also.

It is China who give west a clean sky and nice air.

Chinese leaders are way more smarter the ones in the west and India, they all worked the way up through low level administration positions through decades of good job performance which had been evaluated constantly by the governmennt. they are professional administrators, unless in the west ,you have actors, billionaires, stand comedians who got no administrative experiences become the top leaders overnight, China chose her leaders by merits, the west got them through popularity shows.

China's sky and water are much much cleaner than a decade ago, and check out India, it doesn't have much industries and factories, but it's being polluted to hell. Beautiful democracy won't clean everything for them.

I guess you know that western countries all went through heavy pollution period when they were industralized and polluted did cause a lot of damage and killed many people in UK and US, but neither of them handled it so swiftly and strongly as China did

China reduces air pollution as much in 7 years as US did in 3 decades

All country goes through this pollution stage. Including United States.

Water pollution was identified as a growing problem in the US by scientists, government officials and the public in the 19th century. Many cities and towns piped their untreated domestic sewage into nearby waterways. Wastewater discharged by factories, mines and other businesses increased as the economy expanded. Large cities, and later smaller communities, began to install drinking water treatment systems in the early 20th century,[7] but sewage treatment plants were limited at that time and not very effective.[2] Effective control of sewage and industrial pollution was not comprehensively addressed until later in the century. Agricultural pollution emerged as a growing problem in the 20th century with the increased mechanization of agriculture[8] and increasing use of chemicals.[9]

But according to Beijingwalker our short-sighted politicians who couldn't see beyond 4 years would never bother to clean this up.

Apparently that isn't true because the US invested R&D money into waste water treatment technology and implemented it apparently long before Beijing did because Bejingwalker can actually remember the days of insane pollution in all his rivers.

Do you think the Chinese with all their 5/10/20 plans were the pioneers who spent the money in the 19th century to perfect techniques for treating waste water which are used today? Likely they looked around at the elaborate systems used around the world for at least 70 years and focused on the one that worked the best. A pet project of Mao's maybe?

If China moved industries and manufacturings out of China, the pollution level will also naturally decrease, besides, China's massively improved her environment in a decade, and we are talking about a nation of 1.4 billion people where pollution caused by human activities has been around for thousands of years.

It isn't just industries and manufacturing polluting local waterways...alot of it is simply human excrement from millions of city residents flowing through sewer pipes...which usually led to local waterways. So I'm quite sure the waste treatment started mainly due to the foulness of that flowing into local rivers versus some concern about some tannery upstream.

Oh yes, for all the achievements in China the credits go to your America and the west, you people are the saviours to all the things in China.

It's great, but why do you have to keep putting down other countries as comparison to emphasize your country's superiority? You really believe only China can plan for the long term and other countries are so incompetent that they can't plan beyond an electoral term?
