What's new

Type 23 maybe

6 type 21 that are current active in PN will be retire after 5 years ... PN is looking for new ships to replace them

and might be type 23 is best replacement of them

why not upgraded F-22P will give 30 years guaranty and of course along with type 23 will increase in number if not quality Pakistan need big ticket item like Type 52D destroyer . if Pakistan can mange to get 3~4 type 53D destroyer which will cost not more then 4 Billion dollar max can effectively make IN operation difficult . cost of procuring destroyer and 4 upgraded F-22P frigate can spread over next 20 years will need PN ~250 per annum (4000+ 4*230~)/20

PN needs something bigger than F22 P ... like type 054A or type 52D
i think PN should go for new stuff rather than old one

HMS Argyll commissioned 31 May 1991 > decom 2023 > age = 32 years
HS St Albans commissioned 6 June 2002 > decom 2036 > age = 34 years

Type 21s commissioned 1974-1975 > 40-41 year old today.

You may get 10-15 more years out of the Type 23s but what to do in the interim between now and 2023? Because the Type 21s are likely done soon.

Yes, you have quoted their full expected life in RN service. I am assuming that Pakistan would want the ships within two years. So by 2017 they are less than 34 years old. No need to buy them at 34 years of age even if we get for cheap, because we would want 15 years of service at a minimum. 50 years for a high seas ship is pushing it a bit.

of course for short term to to replace typ 21 you need f-22p long term goal can be type 54A or a more modified version of type54 with more punch and few Type 52D . future composition 8 F-22P + 4 type52D + type23 and OHP +6~7 type 54A/B

Do you think a few ship could have stop the US if Pakistan is going to war with America??

Or to a point, make any difference at all??

ahahah he was just joking buddy :)
we dont want to face US fleets :)

On topic , PN should stop this collection of Junks from all world ..

Agreed now economy back on track don't know how much time it will remain intact so good time for on Pakistani armed forces think tank should focus on Pakistan navy development PN needs few helicopters most of on heli fleet is 30 year old and need some destroyers don't waste money on frigates anymore long range Sam and anti ship groung based missiles and most important bring Pakistani marines some good equipment few APC which can carry marines to shores and some dedicated gunship helicopters

Yes we need destroyers frigates don't buy our entire navy is like frigates so don't even think of frigates and not to forget navy marines need some good equipment too

No that is not 'expected life', that is what RN is planning to do. Why would RN start selling ships 6 years before the are planning to begin decommissioning them? The 13 Type 23s in service, with the 6 Type 45s are the core of the RN surface fleet. There will be no decommissionings without new ships coming online first. Which means Type 26, of which building starts 2016 and projected first date first in service is 2022. Why would RN shrink itself (even further) if it doesn't have to?
