lots of countries managed to break up from russia after soviet unions collapse, but russia wont let chechnya go because it has alot of resources. there must be a reason why chechens want s seperate state and that is because they are not treated equally. nevertheless, the best thing chechens can do is move to other muslim countries if they wanted to be treated fair. Like turkey for example, which used to rule over places such as Chechnya today during ottoman era. i am sure they have a history together

btw, this reminded me off the movie sum of all fears, because US and russia create a nuclear apocalypse because of the chechen conflict

It's about exploiting resources, genius.

Chechnya has not even a tenth of the reserves of resources that are there in eastern Russia which is largely unexplored due to sheer size of the land. What're you trying to say? That any country cannot extract resources from its own territory? Isn't Pakistan taking natural gas from Balochistan province or for that matter primary resources from northern areas? Then what is wrong with Russians going for resources in their own province?

You're most welcome to. Usually countries do extract resources from their own territory because that is how economies run. US does it from Alaska, Canada does it from Arctic, Russia does it from Chechnya, you do it from Balochistan and we do it from J&K and other states. Nothing new.

The Chechn separatism is about religion and religion only. There's more than 2 dozen interviews on Chechn "Emirs" on what their plan is. Let's get this straight: Tzar Alexander didn't ask them to convert in their own country. They did it in their own will. Nobody stopped them from anything in their personal lives. But now asking for a separate state just for the heck of it, that no country will tolerate.

Whether you like it or hate it; that's how it runs around the world. Accept it with a pinch of whatever you like.

The USSR targeted all Russians equally ruthlessly regardless of any community differences. If there was a hint of political opposition, there will be repression. That was Soviet law for all those holding its nationality which included Russians, Ukrainians, far eastern Siberians, Central Asians.. you name it.

You're making it sound as if Soviet regime was divine to all the rest and only Chechns were attacked. It might be so that they were less compliant of Soviet norms than other provinces which caused whatever attacks the Reds did on them. Stalin is despised by all Russians today including Zyuganov's Communist party in Russian politics. They even have a memorial of "Stalin Terror Victims".

Did i imply anywhere that Soviets were nicer or less nice to other ethnicities? I am well aware of Tatar, Baltic States and others deportations. However since this thread is about Chechens why should i talk about the others? The intention of my post is to highlight what grievances the Chechens specifically have with the Russians.
