Two more Super Hercules planes on way to India

transport aircraft have there own importance .... so it big deal that we getting something good.

Firstly the C-130s in PAF service designed in late 1950s is VERY different to the C-130-30j Super Hercules in IAF service. the Super Hercules has brand new, more powerful engines, modern avionics suits and a glass cockpit as well as advanced defensive suites. Additionally as the C-130j in IAF service are dedicated Special Operations platforms they have even more specilised and advanced equipment such as a2a refeulling probe , an Electro Optical Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) and other such things hence the higher price.

+does anyone have any pics of new Hercs @ Hindon AFS? and does anyone know if the a2a refueling probes and EO FLIR taken off for journey to India have been fitted yet or are only fitted when need ie for ops?

Pakistan is operating C-130 Hercules which is very old one (50 Year+). Almost 70 Countries are Operating that C-130. India bought C-130 Super Hercules with Improved technology.The C-130J is a comprehensive update of the venerable Lockheed C-130 Hercules, with new engines, flight deck, and other systems. These differences include new Rolls-Royce AE 2100 D3 turboprops with Dowty R391 composite scimitar propellers, digital avionics (including head-up displays (HUDs) for each pilot), and reduced crew requirements. These changes have improved performance over its C-130E/H predecessors, such as 40% greater range, 21% higher maximum speed, and 41% shorter takeoff distance.

Here's more for our Pakistani self styled 'defence expert' who said that Pakistan has been operating them for decades and that the US is selling decades old junk!!

C-130J has the same capability as two C-130H aircrafts with 33 percent more payload (at 2,500 nautical miles) and 33 percent greater range (with 25,000 pounds) using half a crew, while burning less fuel and flying faster and higher. To reach 18,000 feet, it would normally take a C-130H 29 minutes, but with a C-130J, it can be cut down to 17 minutes. There's much more but this will have to do for now unless our Pakistani friend needs more gen! :azn: But you can read more here...

IAF to get four Super Hercules transport aircraft by June-end

NEW DELHI: Strengthening the special operations capability of Indian Air Force, four of the six C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft procured from the US under a USD 970-million deal will join the fleet by month end.

"Two aircraft are already here at the Hindon air base near here and two more would be joining our fleet by the end of this month," IAF officials said here.

The first aircraft was handed over to India by the US Air Force under a USD 970 million deal in mid-December last year and it was inducted into the IAF in February.

The aircraft will considerably enhance IAF's special missions capability and will also be used for transporting men and material, they said.

In 2008, India had purchased the aircraft under the US government's Foreign Military Sales route that includes an offset clause under which the firm will invest 30 per cent of the deal amount back in Indian defence industry.

The aircraft would also be pressed into service for transporting special forces from the capital to other places in the country in case need arises and reduce their response time as well.

The US government had offered a unique C-130J configuration for special mission roles and these will be the first uniquely configured aircraft in the IAF fleet for its special operations.

The aircraft will be able to perform precision low- level flying and landing in blackout conditions.

Special features are included to ensure aircraft survivability in hostile air defence environment.

In addition, these aircraft will have refuelling probes, advance radar warning receivers and counter measure dispensing system for extended range and additional safety.

India is also planning to place orders for six more similar aircraft and likely to send a Letter of Request to the US Government in this regard in near future.
