Turks down 'Russian plane violating their airspace'

A RUSSIAN jet has been shot down by Turkish forces after it flew into the country's airspace, according to as yet unconfirmed reports circulating on social media.
According to reports, eyewitnesses saw a large explosion in Huraytan, northern Syria, while three fighter jets were hovering above.

One journalist tweeted that three Turkish planes were responding to "mysterious" lock-ons from Mig-29 jets, which are used by Putin's forces.

Daily Star Online has contacted the Turkish government and the Russian military but neither could be reached for comment.

It comes amid heightening tensions between Putin and the West just days after another Russian bomber violated Turkish airspace.

F-16 fighters were scrambled after a MIG-29 twin-engined jet locked radar on Turkish planes near the town of Yayladagi, in Hatay province close to the border with Syria.

Turkish jets then escorted the Soviet-era aircraft back into Syrian airspace.

The incursion followed nearly a week of Russia's devastating bombing campaign in Syria after President Vladimir Putin declared war on Islamic State (ISIS).
Turkey's Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Russia's entry into the conflict in Syria had escalated the crisis and that Moscow admitted its warplane's violation of Turkey's airspace was a "mistake".

Russia's ambassador in Turkey was also summoned in protest at the provocative action.

Turkish officials have warned Moscow would be held "responsible for any undesired incident" that may occur in the future.
And earlier this week former MI6 chief Sir John Sawers warned of a cataclysmic clash between Russia and the US as tensions boil between both superpowers.

It came after Defence Secretary Michael Fallon announced Britain is to station a "small number" of troops in the Baltic states in a further move to deter Russian aggression.

Mr Sawer said: "It is going to be quite hard to continue this campaign unless there is a degree of military co-ordination between the Russians and the West.

"You can't really have two air forces fighting different campaigns aimed at different objectives over the same territory without the real risk of a clash."

Bomb who into oblivion? You do know that Turkey will be fighting on home soil right? lol

For the last part you are right, Turkey being part of NATO complicates matters. However, i am sure Russian leaders aren't foolish. They obviously know they cant take on NATO in any conventional war in the region.
So the main point here is : How far will NATO get involved in case of any conflict involving Turkey and Russia. That will be the main point here.

Plus all these is just PDF fan boys hypothetical talks. lol There will be no full scale war between Turkey and Russia, Much less NATO and Russia. Little issues/conflicts/diplomatic Sabre-rattling but no war per se. So we should all chill. I know that some fanboys on here really wish to see a war between these parties, so they can have some fun seeing how big powers fighting an all out war looks like in the modern world.:D:P

Doesn't really matter if the Turks act aggressively and bring down a Russian jet. The Russians are crazy enough to launch an all out attack.

However, I do agree that Turkey won't do such a thing and if anything does happen, all international players will rush in to pacify the Russians.

Turkey is a NATO member, its not that easy, first learn about international relations, then come back to post here !!!

First learn to read and then reply. I've clarified that if NATO does get involved, it would complicate matters to no end.
Being a NATO member doesn't mean you can act irresponsibly, especially against someone like Russia.

Also, like I said, Turkey wouldn't bring down a Russian jet. That would be asking for trouble.

I am surprised you are even asking this question !

On-topic: Turkey will never down a Russian Fighter with a SAM all of a sudden. Even if things escalate for the worse, there are steps involved. This news is a joke.

Don't be. I was just practical in the theory.

@Neptune Brother , I am confused ; what do you mean ?
Do you want so say that yesterday night we shot an own E-7T with friendly fire and had combat with Russian fighters ?

I don't understand ?

No of course. But we might have used E-7T to collect data/radar emission on Russian aircraft when they locked on our F-16s.

If the news was true, the World would have been shaking with this right now.

Russia doesn't have mig-29s in syria.Only su-34,su-30,su-25,su-24 plus hind gunships.
So my guess is it was a syrian air force mig,they do operate mig-29s.Would be pretty ballsy for the turks to shoot down a russian plane killing russian pilots,and probably with serious consequences.

@illusion8

Why are you discussing so primitive ? Do you forget that you have 200 Million Muslim Indian Citizens ?
Is that productive for peace ? Shameful posts.

Brother they consider their own Indian muslims are foreigners, first people like him were burning muslims alive for eating beef, now look what they have done. The government parliamentarians, yes parliamentarians, assaulted a muslim parliamentarian almost to death (in Indian occupied Kashmir's parliament) just because he served beef at his dinner party at his home one day ago, so just ignore what ever certain biased indians here say about muslims.

@mike2000 is back :tup:

Congratulations WW3 is made with other means economic, destabilization and terror

Why would we fight Russia when we are already bringing down their economy to its knees?? No need to fire a single shot. We have far more effective ways to handle them just like we did with the Soviet union.;)
