What's new

Turkish Unmanned Vehicle Programs

Nope. Baykar made TB2 by their own decision, they took the risk. They made perfect propaganda to force SSM to get these UAVs into Army. They even made several announcements in their own website like "dont let us to be second Nuri Demirdağ" etc. I remember those days very well, people were sharing those announcements as much as they could to reach officials.

TB2 was their own taken risk, not asked by tenders.

Well of course they made it on their own accord, for the tender they were participating in. So did Vestel, Vestel didn't win tender they Baykar did.

You're misremembering..

What is the main difference between tb1 and tb2 other than that tb2 can carry weapons?

Moral of the story: Don't develop a product in Turkey that meets only the minimum requirements. Instead, try to analyze what the Turkish Military is going to be doing in the southeast, Iraq, Syria, etc and anticipate the upcoming needs of the battlefield and how those tender requirements may be revised in 2-3 years. Your product should meet the needs of not just today, but also near future! Also, build your product in a modular way so that any improvements in requirements can be accounted for by simply swapping some existing parts with new components, with minimal change to the rest of the airframe.

That said, both TAI and Baykar seem to have taken note of this tendency and are able to quickly adapt to it, which is great. But other aspiring Turkish companies (Vestel Savunma and others) should learn for it too.

I think you are mis remembering, Vestel was awarded with catapult launched project but They made Karayel as result which didn't satisfied force.

On the other hand Baykar built original UAV without any SSM support and After that they were rewarded with development project which they developed tb2 variant.

We signed a contract worth 250000 USD with "STM Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret A.Ş" for our XQ-06 "Fi" Loitering Munition

Is that “Fi” is different or same with “Alpagu”?
