The LPD project has been transformed into a LHD / LPH platform, primarily due to changing requirements over time. Nowadays, "even though a problematic period with the United States is being experienced", the ability of the pocket carrier ( with the F35B) is discussed sometimes. In this respect, I wonder whether the ESSM capability (or equivalent) is being considered for the future, like US LHD/LHA platforms... In recent years, especially if I consider the president's discourse on the future of this project, it is quite possible that the second ship will be a more customized platform.

REVISED DIMENSIONS FOR TURKISH REIS-CLASS SUBMARINES

IMG_5768.JPG

Public domain information seen by MONCh at the SAHA exhibition held in Istanbul in September indicates that the overall length of the REIS-class Type 214TN air independent propulsion (AIP) submarines under construction for Turkish Naval Forces (TFN) has been increased by 0.75m over previously released information. The length now apparently stands at 68.35m, with the other key dimensions being height of 13.1m excluding periscope masts, beam 6.3m and draught 6.8metres.

Of the six submarines to be built, three are already in hand at the Golcuk Naval Shipyard: the first, PIRIREIS, was laid down in October 2015 and is expected to be launched this year; the third boat, MURATREIS, was laid down in February. The vessels are expected to be commissioned into the TNF in 2021-2026, and will be the first AIP submarines in Turkish service, replacing four AY-class (Type 209/1200) diesel-electric powered boats. The REIS will feature the ISUS-90/72 combat management system, Mk48 Mod 6AT and DM2A4 heavyweight torpedoes, HARPOON Block I/II and IDAS missiles. The indigenously-developed AKYA heavyweight torpedo and ATMACA Block I/II missile systems are likely to be integrated in coming years.

Originally the class was to be called CERBE, but in 2014 significant design modifications were made to meet TNF requirements and to cater for some technical problems with the HDW design. The former commander of TNF, Adm. Bülent Bostanoglu, is on record as stating that Turkish engineers found five major design flaws and developed solutions for them. The resulting submarine, longer and heavier than CERBE, was renamed the REIS-class. The latest revision in the overall length makes the current submarines 2.05m longer than the original CERBE design. MONCh understands that surface displacement is around 1,850t and submerged displacement likely to be 2,040-2,050.

Erdogan did mentioned plans, if my memory serves me right, for second aircraft carrier. Or something down those lines. Few times. Now... who knows. One thing is for sure, you dont build something like this if you not gonna use it. :)

Its probaly for a LHD not an AC, people often dont realize these are something whole different class and Turkey neither needs one nor should waste money on it.

Well, as you say, amateurs can easily confuse these ships and generalize all of them as AC but seeing the table in front of the construction which is written "uçak gemisi" on it is quite confusing.
