Turkish Airforce requested the purchase of 117 AIM-9X Block II

I will just add that the AIM-9X can be used in the Air to Ground mode as well.

Turkish AF is what PAF should have been too, if only we had befriended Israel like many of the Arabs have such as Egypt, Jordan, GCC, these are the countries that were direct enemies and they have made peace and our policies are hostage to our mullah brigade who have no understanding of the modern world and live in the times that are now a figment of the Muslim world's imagination. My proposal does not mean we give up on the Palestine issue but become worthy players in solving this problem. Remember even Ararfat went down the road of compromise with Israel so why can't we?

If we were to develop diplomatic relationships with Israel, it would change Pakistan's landscape overnight, because the western world will understand that Pakistan is not a nuclear threat to Israel. This will also bring to us many advantages and open up many doors economically, socially and militarily. What is not to like.

Valid statement. But don't forget China's assistent for Pakistan. J-10A with B updated varient is more powerful then most F-16s.

As most Pakistanis, I too salute China for her progress and her support of Pakistan, we wish to to emulate your success and we are your biggest customer for military hardware. Without China, Pakistan would not have made in roads to such projects as the JF-17, AL-Khalid, F22 etc. However, if we had been pragmatic in our diplomatic relationships with the West as we had been with China, Pakistan would be Turkey, a friend of both East and West.

In the late 60s we helped China bridge the gap to the West and yet our history is littered with poor decisions, emotional regrets such as allowing Zia to dictate us for so long, we sit impoverished, battered by our zealots, watching our neighbours rise and wish the same opportunities for our children that we see others enjoy.

What price is a lost generations, what price for a lost country!! time to wake up and walk down the road of reality and not on some wishful dream of divine intervention that has never come and never will.

Whats the profit of that. I mean explosive in missile isnt sufficient for any effect on ground...:undecided::undecided:

blast fragmentation warhead..
the effectiveness of these systems is like making swiss cheese out of aircraft..
So their effectiveness against soft skin vehicles and groups of people will be quite a bit.

Funny that the things I used to ridicule about childish simulators like ace combat such as the small missile being able to target anything are actually happening.

J-10 is a good aircraft but F-16AMs (the Netherlands) and F-16 Block 50/52(+)s (most of the nato partners, Jordan, Oman, KSA and Pakistan) are better than J-10 :)

What is that bulky bit on the top (start of the wing)? And the back top wing's base seems fatter as well. What's the benefit of these? Better aerodynamics?

AIM-9X Block II performing better than expected

The Raytheon AIM-9X Block II Sidewinder is about halfway through its operational testing and, thus far, the weapon is performing better than expected with one exception, the US Navy says.

"AIM-9X Block II missile has accomplished approximately half the planned objectives of operational test (OT) and is on track to complete on schedule by the end of the [third quarter] of 2013," says the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), which manages the dogfighting missile for the US Department of Defense. "Analysis completed to date indicates that the missile is exceeding performance requirements in all areas, including lock-on after launch (LOAL)."

The Block II's improved LOAL capability, which allows a fighter to launch the weapon without the missile's infrared seeker head locked-on to the target, will help US pilots to engage enemy aircraft from increased ranges compared to the older Block I AIM-9X.

The Block II incorporates a data-link similar to the one found on the Raytheon AIM-120D AMRAAM, which enables it to receive target updates from the launching aircraft. The addition of the data-link helps to boost LOAL performance and enables pilots to take advantage of the full kinematic performance of the AIM-9X missile body-which is described as "near" beyond visual range.

So far, pending the final analysis of the test data, the new AIM-9X "has performed as designed in 21 of 22 combined developmental test (DT) and OT live fire events," NAVAIR says. "Seventeen of those 22 live fire attempts have resulted in the missile guiding to a lethal target intercept in aggressive scenarios, most of which exceeded the previous AIM-9X Block I capabilities."

NAVAIR notes that since the beginning of operational testing, five of seven live fire attempts appear to have guided to a lethal target intercept.

But there is one area where a software fix is needed. "Prior to the start of OT [operational test], a valid deficiency was identified regarding AIM-9X Block II helmetless high off-boresight (HHOBS) performance," NAVAIR says. "Although HHOBS is functioning well in Block II, its performance appears to be degraded from the superior performance seen in Block I and will be improved with a planned software clean-up build at the end of OT [operational test]."

The HHOBS capability is of critical importance to the US Air Force, which according to the Pentagon's director of Operational Test and Evaluation 2012 report, initially identified the short-fall. The USAF's prized Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor air superiority fighter will not have a helmet-mounted cuing system when it receives full AIM-9X capability in 2017 (though a "rudimentary" AIM-9X capability is expected to be added in 2015). Thus Raptor pilots will need to rely on the AIM-9X's HHOBs ability.

NAVAIR notes the HHOBS deficiency does not impact any other Block II capabilities.

KSA does not operate F-16s. We operate F-15Cs,Ds,Ss and soon SAs.

This ability is primarily meant for emergency close air support, when troops on the ground request emergency CAS it means they are minutes away from certain death and all fighters in the vicinity must rush to assist.

The Block II can be stowed inside the aircraft.
Correct me if I'm wrong please.

Block I can not be used on the JSF.
Stealth configuration anyways.

The Block I has to 'see' the target before launch.
