Turkey's Altay MBT project hit by engine technology transfer issues

Talking my own opinions about you would make me banned from this forum. Use your imagination.

some random trolls using turkish flag..
maybe I can say this about "your" "opinions".. I dont give a shit :coffee:

Turkey should look at Azerbaijan, use their Oil Money and make this happen. Hoping others will lend us a hand is not working so far.

Dont worry they will be bitter again, trump will abandon europe to expansionist turkey and russia, mark my words this is coming in the next 20 yrs, turkey already has the capability to run over most of little european states except france or germany maybe...
Lool WTF are you talking about ? :o: Turkey can run over all European countries except MAYBE France and Germany ?? using your logic, Turkey must be the new mighty Nazis Germany then. Is that what they teach you people in Pakistan or?o_O lol

You cheerleaders should calm down. This was Austrian government decision alone, you any lunch all European countries together. Every county has their interests, views and opinions about foreign issues. Just like many other European countries are still cooperating with Turkey in many sector's. :)

You don't like EU/Germans yet you live there. Do you hate your parents, assuming they took you there/brought you up there. ?
Lol you are surprised ? In fact some of those immigrants who immigrated here for a better life or whose parents immigrated here so their children can have a better life are usually usually the most radical towards their host/adopted country even compared to their brothers who stayed in their home country . It's a weird phenomenon which I find hard to understand. I have seen that quit a number of times. Funny thing is despite all this, they don't return back to their home country (apet from visits/holidays maybe), they still want to remain in their hated host country. Lol

He is just trolling, the guy is one of the biggest idiots on here. He claimed Turks should have 4 wives once. LOL

just buy the engines without the ToT from Austria.

Turkey's Altay MBT project hit by engine technology transfer issues

Turkey's plans to build its Altay main battle tank (MBT) have hit a snag after Tümosan, the planned engine provider, cancelled a key technical support contract with Austria's AVL List GmbH.

The cancellation comes after Austria's parliament unanimously adopted a non-binding motion that imposed an arms embargo against Turkey in November 2016. As a result conditions were placed on the transfer of technology to Turkey. Austria made the move in response to Turkey's increasing violation of human rights since the failed military coup attempt in July 2016.

Tümosan has been tasked by the Turkish Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM) with developing a local engine for the Altay MBT. The company brought in Austrian firm AVL List in 2015 to provide technology transfer and support in the development and integration of engines into the Altay tank. Due to the imposition of conditions on technology transfer, Tümosan cancelled the contract with AVL List on 17 January.

"Due to the adoption by the Austrian government [of measures] to insist on export licences that include conditions that interfere in Turkey's domestic politics … the contract as recorded and revenue guarantee given by the company will be cancelled," Tümosan stated in a document published on Turkey's Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) on 17 January.

"It has been understood that there will be serious hurdles that (the company) will face in the transfer of technologies concerning critical sub-components because of sanctions being imposed against Turkey recently in particular by the European Union countries," it added.

The statement noted that instead, "Tümosan will go ahead with local suppliers as much as possible in the development of the engines".

Now here is a very very objectionable idea! What about the Ukrainian engine? :D

Ukraine isn't a realistic option for Turkey given the recent Turkish-Russian rapprochement and how Ukraine itself is torn between the EU (that's effectively sanctioning us) and Russia.

Our choices are:
  • Delay Altay serial production by 4-5 years until a fully domestic 1500HP is ready.
  • Settle for an inferior 900HP engine; severely limiting Altay's performance characteristics.
  • Buy the engines off-the-shelf -- Accept risk of cost increases, re-export restrictions, spare parts restrictions, operational zone restrictions, modification restrictions.
  • Go for an alternate provider of technology, preferably outside of the Eurozone -- Will still delay serial production by at least 1 year
  • Jointly develop a brand new engine with another country -- Also a 4-5 year investment but with a smaller upfront R&D and unit cost.

Ukraine is torn between EU and Russia? lol wut?

its the EU thats holding Ukraine at bay, Ukraine is doing everything it can to get closer to EU.

one of your options is joint development, Ukrainian engines are not as good as Western engines, but its better than nothing, and Turkey can provide funds and its own participation to improve the engine.

Ukraine is currently the best option until South Korea develops its own engine, then Turkey can do another tech transfer.
I am surprised Turkey didn't go to South Korea in the first place, SK proved to be a reliable partner for Turkey.

South Korea has already developed its own engine.
