Authorities in Turkey have detained a man for hanging a towel emblazoned with the British union jack flag from a building during a public holiday.

The Iranian man was detained on Tuesday in the central Turkish city of Kayseri following complaints from neighbours who deemed the display of the design to be a provocative act.

The man defended himself by saying he was merely drying his wet towel, the Kayseri governor’s office said in a statement.

Turks celebrate Youth and Sports Day on 19 May through various activities, including displaying Turkish flags in windows and balconies. The holiday commemorates the start of Turkey’s war of independence, which started on 19 May 1919 against occupying forces, including British, following the first world war.

Neighbours clapped and cheered as police escorted the man into a police vehicle, media reports said.

. . . .
Assuming this individual was ignorant of this occasion to start with, had any neighbours raised their complaints to him directly at any point to inform him? If they did and he still kept the towel, then this was either a deliberate act of provocation or him simply being arrogant. Either way, punishment is justified. If he was truly ignorant of the situation, then tough luck to him.

He will probably be released tomorrow without further action, its just better to keep him in custody for tonight.

Here in Norway, during Norways own national day. Foreigners celebrate with their own countries flags. So you see Turkish flags, Pakistani flags etc during Norways own national day. They arrested a guy for drying his towel in his own balcony just because it had a British flag. LOL

Then he should have lived in Norway, not Turkey.

You can't come here and impose your culture/beliefs on Turks, like some people do in Europe.

A lot of these pieces of shit whether iranian, armenian or greek come to Turkey to wave their flags.

Seriously start arresting them or kick them out. They are not doing it to show where they come from they are doing it to provoke people and to piss them off.

If Turks done the same thing in their own countries they will get triggered and start crying about it.

If you cant respect peoples countries, laws, culture or rules then dont even come then.

Because drying a towel with a British flag on it is the same as imposing his culture and beliefs on Turks. o_O Worst part is, he probably bought the towel in Turkey in the first place.

Imagine a Iranian Jew has a Israel flag towel and does the same on a Iranian holiday.
Public execution, torture or probably lynched by neighbours.

Thats completely different. Iran and Israel are enemies, we dont sell Israeli flags. Turkey and Britain are Allies. He probably bought the towel in Turkey in the first place.

Its a public holiday comemorating the start of independence war that ended the occupation by Brits, on that day everybody hangs Turkish flags on balconies so someone hanging a British flag will provoke, whats so hard to understand about this?

Wont even need a holiday for it to happend.
Hard to understand why Iranians act all arrogant here suddenly.
