(Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump raised concern about his country's trade deficit with Vietnam in a phone call on Tuesday with its Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the White House said.

The United States last week named Vietnam a currency manipulator, a move that trade experts said could pave the way for Trump to impose tariffs on Vietnamese goods before he leaves office in January.

"President Trump raised concerns regarding the trade deficit and urged Prime Minister Phuc to take bold steps to ensure fair and reciprocal trade between the United States and Vietnam," White House spokesman Judd Deere said.

U.S. companies imported about $65 billion worth of goods from Vietnam in the first 10 months of 2020, compared with $66.6 billion for all of 2019.

The United States is Vietnam's largest export market, accounting for over a quarter of its total export revenue in the first 11 months of this year. Its key exports to the United States include garments, electronics and wooden products.

Hard Luck that the US is giving so much attention to Vietnam's trade surplus with the US so early in their development ascent.

Not good at all
I hope Biden will think in a greater context.
This small trade surplus is nothing compared to giant US Gdp.
Vietnam needs at least 10 y to reach high income status.

Vietnam has been exploiting and stealing from the U.S.A. for too long!
The international community stands united against bullies like Vietnam and its predatory tactics!

Jokes aside, we told you if they win or fail against China they will come after you next 🙄

Did Vietnam really think someone like Trump would not go after them especially after what he did with China/EU/Canada?

Too bad, they were more generous when times were good.
The US burdened with PRINTING so much debt that the world is forced to help finance due to the $ hegemony.
Expect the US to become more PETTY and isolated.

No worries for Vietnam though, China have a huge market that is just next door.

If Biden will also go after Vietnam it's going to cause a lot of laughter here. Going to enjoy this slapstick show

Trump is such a dumbass. LOL He literally has been trying to get other countries to bash on China, then bashes those countries at the same time as he is trying to get them on board. LOL

His time is up anyways. This is why the deep state removed him, because he's a fucking clown.
