Makes sense
Generally, the Pakistani embassy should be working overtime selling Pakistani narratives to US lawmakers. Bringing key lawmakers and influencers to Pakistan to change their perception and would have worked with lobby groups to remove bad perceptions. More importantly, Pakistani embassy should have been working with influential Pakistani-Americans to lobby their cause. If you look at the Indian-American community, they are all 100% pro-India and actively furthering Indian interests. From my experience, Pakistani-American professionals tend to either be apprehensive about Pakistan or down-right hostile. Pakistan can’t afford its best minds turn on the state of their origins. One of the key people that worked on Obama administration’s Pakistan policy was of Pakistani origin herself. There are many like her who are downright hostile to Pakistani point of view. Unless, the embassy works with these brilliant and influential minds, nothing will change in terms of furthering Pakistani interest.
“As it plans to announce new actions on Pakistan very soon, the Trump administration should consider measures that go beyond previous attempts to change Pakistani behaviour,” said Shamila N. Chaudhary, a former director for Pakistan and Afghanistan on the White House National Security Council during the Obama administration.”
