I guess Japan is now waking up from the decades old vassal status, warming, for example, up to the idea of a more integrated East Asian region. Interestingly, Japan has always been the largest roadblock on a exclusive regionalism (I should point, China also bears some of the guilt, because China also remained cold to the idea of closed regionalism. Used to have too many neoliberal bananas. Now, hopefully, Beijing is learning its lesson bitterly and deeply, too.)
