My take on Hanfu, and its knockout versions such as Hanbok and Kimono:
Hanfu
1. Every Chinese should have at least 1 for formal occasions, and ideally more for different seasons.
2. Contrary to conventional views, Hanfu appear to me actually more convenient in eveyday life than some out-of-fashioned western suits most Chinese people wear that make me cringe: if you wear western suits, make it sure the style is in, alongwith proper ties, shirts and shoes. Or just wear Hanfu, modernised version or not.
3. High quality-made Hanfu (expensive ones) look otherworldly noble, elegant and unique.
4. Due to economic reasons, many Chinese can not afford expensively made Hanfu. That's fine, but DO NOT wear those colourful ones that look like cheap knockouts of the 80's. Just wear a simple one with 1 color: white or light grey or light blue, etc. They look almost equally elegant as well.
Hanbok:
By looks alone they seem to be out of porpotions, way too short for the top, and way too big for lower part of skirts.
Kimono:
1. they seem to be well-made quality-wise. Their 20th century abstract art alike colouring & design look beautiful at the first glance, but are too quant for my taste, so quant that they have overtaken the true taste of the historical flavour. It's a bit like eating extra-matured cheese with drops of soy source or ketchup.
It reflects the lack of the true spiritual root of Kimono, appearing like an artificial 20th century modern knowkout, unlike authentic Hanfu, even though a simple, cheap, but original one.
2. For Men's version, OMG
, again, too much cheap coloring for many, as if some colourful pajamas of 80's out of Wallmart.
