My top 3:

Best Generals:
1. Ataturk (undefeated record and defeated bigger and better equipment enemy with strategy and knowledge he learned from his study)
2. Pamukoglu (Succesful general fighting PKK terrorist, we need to follow his strategy)
3. Alp Arslan (won multiple bigger armies with his relatively smaller army)

Worst generals:
1. Necdet Özel (What kind of general bows down to terrorist organization? Our ancestors never did this. Also he keeps his mouth shut when signs of Turkish Republic are taken down)
2. Enver Pasha (He had good intentions but he was diluted and his sarikamis campaign we lost whole army, army that were needed elsewhere)
3. Kara Mustafa (he was incompetent, after his stupid mistakes, we not only failed siege of Vienna but empire declined after humiliating defeat)

What is your top 3? Motivation is appreciated.

.
Hmm

Well this will be quite hard :s

But İ can surely assume that Osman Pamukoğlu does not belong in that list.
What happened to our Admiral of the fleet "red beard" ?

This is my top 3 bro. These is no right or wrong. Make your own top3 :cheesy:

BEST OF HISTORY:

1- Veteran Marshall Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK: number one-no doubt

2- Great Admiral Hayrettin BARBOROSSA: the only naval officer that could achieve the rank Great Adm (=marshall) in the 932 years history of TNF.

3- Marshall Fevzi ÇAKMAK: most people don't know him well as he grew under the shadow of Atatürk. He was one of the most trusted staff members of Atatürk, intervened many uprises, fought in many wars many conflicts.

4- Gen. Ismet INÖNÜ first chief of the generals staff of Turkey. Also great contribution at Turkish War of Independence

BEST OF LAST 40 YEARS:

1- Gen. Hüseyin KIVRIKOGLU: yeah, most of you don't know much about him. Only with one word. He was an 'excellent' commander. And he was the most tasked&CO at NATO's Turkish contribution. He had commanded the air forces of NATO before. Once in Cyprus, there was an assasination attempt against him.

2- Gen. Ilker BASBUG: commanded the military at very hot times. It was his idea of fully restructuring the TAF. He was good too.

3- Adm. Fahri KORUTÜRK: as a ex-insider, i can say that he was the greatest admiral that the Republic's Navy had ever seen since 1923. He was the only military origin president of Turkey that became president without a coup.

4- Gen. Yasar BÜYÜKANIT: He is a great general too. Commanded many important units of the army as well as in NATO. During his service years, it was the old good days that still there was a great fear from the TAF by the world.

P.S there are a few generals that are better than the above, such as Gen. Kenan EVREN. But they were coup generals.

THE WORST:

1- Gen. Necdet ÖZEL: no doubt, the current chief of the staff. puppet of AKP.

2- Maybe Enver Pasha due to his failures.

3- NOBODY as TAF is Number 1 at Leadership Of Generals and Professionalism, in the World.

1- Great Admiral Hayrettin Barborossa
2-Osman Nuri Pasha
3-Fakhri Pasha

.
Best:

1.Ataturk-his record speaks for himself.
2.Hayreddin Barbarossa-He succeeded in establishing Ottoman supremacy in the Mediteranean in the middle of the 16th century.
3.Bayazid Yıldırım -He succesfully took command of the empire after his father was assasinated at Kosovo Polje and defeated the crusaders at Nicopolis thus preventing an ottoman ejection from Europe. Some of you might blame him for the fiasco at Ankara but let's not forget he was betrayed and abandoned by many of his troops during the battle.Curiously enough( food for thought for many who speak of Umah even today) those who fled or switched sides were muslim troops while his christian serbian allies fought bravely almost until the end by the sultans side.

Worst:

1.Kara Mustafa Pasha-Even at the very end when he saw the Holy League troops gathering in the hills he didn't try to build proper defences,an incompetent leader all around.
2.Enver Pasa-Caucasus campaign=disaster
3.Baltacı Mehmet Pasha-you have the russian army in your hands along with their emperor to be captured and what do you do?...You sign a peace treaty and let them get away!! Later, the ottomans will greatly regret his decision.:ashamed:

I disagree on Enver Pasha,he made 1 mistake but did many good things.

What would we have gained if he didn't make that mistake?

I disagree on Enver Pasha,he made 1 mistake but did many good things.
What did he do right? Enver also put us into WW1 along side the Germans who lost. IMHO it is a good thing he died in Caucasus campaign. God knows what kind of damage he could have inflicted if he lived longer.

Hahaha,

Mate there are so many great generals in our history.

İ wouldn't dare to make a list.
Admit it :D you can't come up with six names.

.
1.Kara Mustafa Pasha-Even at the very end when he saw the Holy League troops gathering in the hills he didn't try to build proper defences,an incompetent leader all around.
Kara means smart in old Turkish but he wasn't smart at all. If it wasn't for him we probably had conquered Vienna. The Ottomans basically conquered the walls. Total humiliation that 50 000 enemy horsemen defeated whole Ottoman army that was much bigger in one attack.

@atatwolf

Destroying the whole russian army and taking the emperor prisoner would have thrown the russian empire in dissaray,Peter was able to return home and continue his rule which was a good one,in fact under Peter Russia became a great power.
