Tokyo Olympic 2021: Discussion and Update

Apparently China with a population of over a Billion has an athlete shortage.

How about India?

While China dont really has shortage of Gold medalist, western sports elite seem to be shortage of non-asthma and non-ADHD.

LOL! They are your equally overpopulated Asian brothers not mine. Go ask them yourself.

On another note, eventhough we came 4th behind Japan, we perfromed fairly well. Eventhough we had alot of disappointments in fields we are normally strong in.

Very impressive!

Still good to see that we remain the powerhouse of sports/olympics in Europe.

Have you done the EU medal counts yet? You were leading us and China at one point. We'll have to post their pics/stats.

This Japan Hashimoto get high score for this round, hence getting gold. Else China will get gold.

Dont know why some non Chinese members here are even arguing up and down with the chinese over the US topping the medal tables.
Its actually normal for Chinese members on here to be sour and bitter, since China came second. In fact its only during the beijing games that China had more golds than the US. Which was expected since countries organizing the olympics have a big advantage since they can choose more fileds they are good in to be included in the Olympics. Reason Japan came 3rd this year ahead of us.
Anyway, the US has always topped the medals table since the beginning of the olympics, only the USSR has beaten the US in medals table(both golds and total medal counts) a few times.
If anything China has actually done well to come so close to the US in gold medals (though still a long way to go in total medal counts),eventhough they still fell short of the US at the end.
To be honest, this was actually one of the worse US performance in Olympic history. The fact that they still came up 1st even after such a bad performance shows just how deep the US talent pool/sports performance is as a country. It will ne a while for China to catch up to this. The vast gap in the total medal count says alot about this even more .

On another note, eventhough we came 4th behind Japan, we perfromed fairly well. Eventhough we had alot of disappointments in fields we are normally strong in. I was actually happy to see that our athlete's bagged medals in so many different fields from individual events to team events in so many varieties of fields. Still good to see that we remain the powerhouse of sports/olympics in Europe.

I agree, it shows amazing US political soft power in that they gave 30+ medals to swimming while they're pressuring IOC to cut weightlifting.
