A direct container shipping route has been established between Iran’s southeastern port of Chabahar and two Western Indian ports of Nhava Sheva and Kandla. The first container service from this route will enter Iran’s
enter Iran’s Shahid Beheshti port on February 16, Deputy Head of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organisation (PMO) Jalil Eslami has said.

Regular container service with a traffic schedule of 10 to 15 days is performed by the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL). The PMO will offer the necessary tariff incentives and facilities on tolls and transportation costs to support the traders that use the lines, said a PMO statement.

India had previously launched shipping lines between Chabahar and the Indian ports of Mumbai and Mundra in 2017. In January 2019, the second direct shipping route was launched. It passes through Mumbai, Mundra, Kandla, Chabahar and finally Bandar Abbas in southern Iran. India is using these shipping routes to transit goods to Afghanistan and Persian Gulf nations as well as the countries in Central Asia, the Iranian media reported. Through Chabahar port, India can bypass Pakistan and transport goods to Afghanistan and Central Asia, while Afghanistan can get linked to India via sea.

Iran has awarded India the project for installing and operating modern loading and unloading equipment, including mobile harbour cranes in Shahid Beheshti Port in Chabahar.

The first-ever India-Iran-Uzbekistan trilateral was held last month to develop communication routes with Central Asian countries.

Pakistan’s denial of transit for India to Afghanistan and Central Asia has severely hobbled its drive to transform the age-old ties of commerce and blood into an enduring post-modern relationship between nation states of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

My question is why is Pakistan not fomenting unrest that threatens Chahbahar port and makes upstream mobility of road traffic from the port infrastructure a perilous task as a response to threatening CPEC projects and infrastructure in Balochistan, elsewhere? Iran obviously wants to sit in the lap of Indians. In the retrospect, I have come to believe that not siding with the Arabs during the Yemen conflict wholly was a strategic blunder. Even I believed it was the right call then. Events afterward proved otherwise. For all our neutrality, Iran continued to conspire against us by offering sanctuary to BLF terrorists and engaged in naked propaganda targetting this country post the fall of Kabul.

Chain ki saans len bhai. Lekin chain ka saans ka yeh matlab nahi hona chahiye ki Afghanistan aapki ghulami kare. If they want to do trade with India then Pakistan shouldn’t get heartburn.

The only option left for Indians is to tunnel underneath Pakistan and connect to Afghanistan and Central Asia.

With their superior Vedic technology and $30 T Moody economy I am sure they can easily achieve this feat.

It would make a lot more sense commercially if Iran were not under severe economic sanctions. While we will continue using the port for access to resources from Central Asia, it will be tough to convince countries to come there due to the severe sanctions that our Iranians friends are forced to live with.
One way of making it even more attractive is to expedite on the North-South Transport Corridor (NSTC) until Russia in the long term (once the whole Russia-Ukraine-West tensions ease).

That pic though is a serious self-goal. They couldn't google Chahbahar port and take the right image?

India can't change geographical, cultural, religious realities. Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan are destined to be allies of one sort or another.

Build ports, it doesn't matter. I hope Iran and Afghanistan get the full benefit from it.

Pakistan's biggest mistakes:
-Treating Afghanistan as a brother and not using the US invasion of Afghanistan to further its own goals (annexing Wakhan + kicking out Al Qaeda early by creating a buffer zone in Kunar, Nangarhar, etc) and get more CSF to boost economy/exports
-Not siding with the Arabs when they would've paid billions in the early stages of the Yemen war
