Kolkata: West Bengal's Minister of State for Labour Ghulam Rabbani has slammed Union Minister Of State for Women and Child Development Debasree Chaudhuri for accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of being involved in a conspiracy to convert Bengal into Islamic state and merge with Bangladesh.

Expressing displeasure, Rabbani said criticism of the Opposition should be based on issues and not on imaginations.


"Till yesterday, her colleague (Home Minister) wanted Mamata Banerjee to open the borders to help the Bangladeshi people.Who wants to help the 'so-called jihadis', sitting in Delhi?" Rabbani said in a tweet.

Chaudhuri has made several shocking claims in an interview to IANS on Wednesday.

"If Bengal is not saved now, Banerjee would try to merge the state with Bangladesh and make it West Bangladesh", she had said.


Chaudhuri, an MP from Raiganj Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal, said: "Anti-national elements are getting government protection. In Bangladesh, Hindu minorities are oppressed... similarly in West Bengal, there is a conspiracy to suppress the majority and make them a minority."

"Rohingyas, Bangladeshis and jihadis are given too much importance. They are ruling the roost in the state. This is all a part of conspiracy. Anti-national elements from Kashmir to Myanmar are given shelter in the state," she said.

Following the Union minister's claims, Rabbani took to Twitter to slam her.

"What else can I say, take medicines on time and be safe. Lockdown is affecting you," Rabbani wrote, taking a jibe at Chaudhuri.

Guys - TMC agenda currently (operative word) gels with our agenda in WB. Which is

A. Reduction of Hindutva influence and subscription by using thought-leadership of educated Kolkatan Bengali intelligentsia (most of whom belong to TMC as a group and a need our support from Bangladesh), and,

B. Pushing stronger sense of Bengali nationalism and self-determination to counter interests of Bihari, Marathi and Gujarati businessmen (majority of whom are Hindutva-supporters for obvious reasons). I suggest visiting Bangladeshi tourists as well as Kolkata residents themselves stop patronizing these folks and their businesses.

These trends benefit our interests in Bangladesh, I will elaborate more at some point.

West Bengal should merge with BD, the people (I think) will welcome such a move.

Muslims will be relieved - nobody will arrest or lynch them for carrying or consuming beef. They will be spared the impending genocide.

Some Islamophobes may leave but overall, for most, it will be a welcome move.

Under the center's current administration, Bangla (proper name of WB) is getting step-motherly treatment and short end of the stick, that is for sure. A popular anti-Hindutva sentiment is brewing and cannot be ignored any longer. This is the reason the Hindutva folks are spending so much RSS cow-belt money to shore up influence and propagandize against TMC in WB.

It is just my views but i for one would not wish any alignment between BD and WB as yet.

In time maybe.....ultimately WB will realise that its interest lies in having a strong and prosperous BD next to it.

WB has been losing its importance since independence within india but it was a choice they made.....

They should have supported an independent bengal when they had the chance.

WB is BDs strategic depth and buffer against hindutva forces and i wish that to remain.

The 7 sisters are backwaters and will always remain so as that serves both BD and indias interest.

This is where you are wrong.

Anti Hindutva sentiment is strong only in Kolkata. In the hinterland where Hindus are the majority - Hindutva is stronger than ever before.

I am seeing it differently.

The merger of West Bengal with Bangladesh will mean the following -
1. The emancipation of at least 20 to 30 million Muslims
2. The freedom of the entire North east. They will no longer have to submit to Hindu rule from Delhi.
3. Many Islamophobes will leave West Bengal making it a better place to live in.

West Bengali Muslims would be the happiest, for obvious reasons.

It will be good.

I don’t think West Bengal will want to merge with BD anytime soon . We don’t see the people of Calcutta marching on the streets of Calcutta asking To be freed from Indian hinduvta or something .
