Tipu Sultan a symbol of communal harmony,’ says Rahul Gandhi

It was these gurus, and their failure to learn, their narrow-mindedness and their clinging on to mediaeval prejudices that have inhibited the growth of Hinduism's various branches.

Does Mother Teresa fall under this narrow mindedness and clinging on to mediaeval prejudices too? Or definition of Guru differs here?

I have no doubt Hitler was inspirational to the Nazi's  ...... even to the neo nazi's of today.

So no doubt Tipu would be "inspirational' to the jihadis and bigots of that day and today. I have no doubt about that either.

I was thinking about the non jihadis, Glad that you cleared that up for us.

Sure, there are those who will distort the roles of historical personalities and appropriate them for their own shabby purposes. Of course there will be those who will clamour around Tipu as a symbol of their own communal aspirations. There will be many others than that who will take him as he was, a man of his times, nothing more, nothing less, and turn away from any symbolism associated with him.

What you were doing thinking about the non-jihadis is known only to your own occluded mind; life is too short to indulge in such monumental speculations initiated by a definitely defective mind.

For his own kingdom, as did the Marathas under the Peshwa, or the Nizam. Nobody fought for Dharma; you had not yet been born.
And that means he is symbol of communal harmony considering this is what is portrayed as him being son of the soil? Fighting against the Brits.

She was another primitive, and the friend of one of the most primitive Popes of recent times; so? Had you had in mind following her? If not, how did you think of Guru and Mother Theresa together?

Did you read my post, denying that he represented any kind of communal harmony, or are you being your usual stupid self?

Not really true, but I suppose it is the politically correct thing to say as Karnataka goes to the polls. Pity politicians have to lie so much, in so many places, about so many things.
He was not a leader of communal harmony but i respect him because he gave british invaders a tough time.

THAT is a different matter altogether. In that context, with his correspondence with Napoleon Bonaparte, he was a far greater potential problem for the British than anybody else comparable. But my imbecile friends are focussed on his character as a communal fiend, projected wrongly by another communal fiend.

Which secular Leader has called her primitive?

Nope I remember your post where you just casually skipped the part where you justify your political master's inability to state the truth.

Which rancid right wing religious leader has called her primitive?

As you know, and insist on ignoring, I don't support the Congress. The thought of calling Rahul Gandhi my political master in order to give yourself a temporary advantage is amusing at best: amusement at the way you are scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Second, I pointed out that the statement was not correct. Which part of it didn't seep down to the aquifer below?

Very well said! If only people in the subcontinent understood this. Both the "taking back control side", and the "thousand years rule" one.

Asalamu Alaikum

Certain rulers very obviously used religion for their own personal gains, but many really were firm Muslims, e.g Aurangzeb Alamgir and Sikander Shah Mir.

However, for most it is rather difficult to tell, with contradictory reports.

Which is why, I shared the shloka about GURU, people who know things MUST call out the bigortry irrespective of which side of the political spectrum it came from. You Tried to justify by saying it's elections in Karnataka hence we must overlook this stupid utterance by RaGa. I wouldn't be surprised if you overlooked Primitave Mother Teresa had elections been in West Bengal.

He wasn't a Communal fiend?

He cared less for religion and more for survival. Regardless, he was a bullwark who in his own folly of decisions threw away earlier opportunities to keep the EIC in control.

Do read up on the Anglo-Mysore wars before drawing absurd conclusions. Didn't Tipu's forces have to contend with both the Marathas and the Nizam.

Sure he did, the Maratha's hated tipu sultan as he was the Auranzeb of the south, equal in his hate for non muslims and with an equal zeal for conversion.

Th Nizam did not considered him an high class Ashraf, but a low class convert Ajlaf.

The liberation of Mysore by this effort, paved way for the Hindu King wadiyar dynasty, to regain his throne in Mysore and reestablish Hindu Swaraj in the South. Its one of the best hings that happened to south India.

How convenient to brush off the evils of Islamic invasion and the following destruction of Hindu life, Hindu pride, desecration of our temples, our values, the selling of our women and children as slaves and the mutilation of our social fabric , as "man of his times".

When nothing could be further from the truth. His actions were not of "man of his time", but of an "Islamic man of this time". No Hindu king ever did even a fraction of the despicable actions of this bigot.

Its only the perverted communist mind who will seeks to obfuscate the truth, and attempt to draw a false equivalence will now spin up stories of "destruction of buddism by hindus". (don't tell me you hate communist)

In fact, Hindu kings were so open minded and non racist, that when Pallava (south India) King Parameshvaravarman (728-731 CE) a descendant of Simhavishnu, was killed in war by chalukyan king Vikramaditya II, and was without a heir, the delegation of Nobles and military leaders sent scholars to Vietnam where distant relatives of the kanchi pallav's ruled. A young boy named Pallavamalla was selected and crowned King Nandivarman II. Pallavamalla ruled for the next 64 years uninterrupted.

Compare that to Hyder Ali and tipu sultan who not only betrayed the Wadiyar king who hired him, but also ketp him under permanent house arrest to be brought out only during Dussara. The only reason he was not killed was because, that would have angered the local population to rise in protest against them and destroy their ambition.

These two incidences show's clearly the difference between the Hindu "men of the time" and the muslim counter part.

And THIS is the reason of my contempt for people like you, who only know communist and british history and continue to deliberately spread lies feeling confident in your own ignorance and barely covered contempt to Hindus and Hinduism.

Look, there is no denying the fact that Tipu had a penchant for persecuting the followers of other religions. You can safely assume that we are on the same page on that issue.

The Hindu Marathas didn't fare any better. Constant bickering and infighting in the Maratha Confederacy led them spiralling downwards so much so that while on their last legs they fought the British separately before their abject surrender. Not even a strong dose of Hinduism could bind them together.

Point being, historical instances should not be solely judged through the icteric eyes of religious prejudice.

We should all appreciate Tipu for the valor he displayed against tough adversaries till his last breath, without overlooking his shortcomings and learn to move on.

Asalamu Alaikum

He was a powerful Muslim ruler who died like fighting like a tiger.

He is without a doubt a character we should respect greatly.

Agreed...
but on the other hand he was one of the biggest tyrant south Asia ever had...
