Tipu Sultan a symbol of communal harmony,’ says Rahul Gandhi

Asalamu Alaikum

He was a powerful Muslim ruler who died like fighting like a tiger.

He is without a doubt a character we should respect greatly.

Walikum Salam

History is filled with examples of leaders who were killed in battle. Case in point: Gustavus Adolphus. He was far bigger personality and commander than Tipu could ever be, and died fighting in one of the most famous battles in history, which ended in victory.

Adolphus isn't quite as relevant to us.

Inspirational to his masses, followers and admirers; would that bother you?

If he was inspirational, his men would not have betrayed him.

Shivaji had a large number of muslims working under him, and right til the end, NONE of them ever betrayed him. Even though he was fighting for Hindavi Swaraj i.e. Hindu Self Rule. THAT is inspirational leadership.

The Marathas and Nizam must truly be inspirational in your eyes then. Not the man who fought the British till his death.

Hitler fought the british too till his death, that must mean Hitler must truly be a inspirational leader in your eyes :cheesy:

DId you just put the Maratha and the Nizam in the same page ? LOL.

I know you would carry the dead body, you know very well who butters your bread.

An incredibly stupid remark. Nobody butters my bread.

As far as you being one of the reasons for India going extreme right is considered. Here is what I have to say .....

गुरुः ब्रह्मा:
गुरुर विष्णु :
गुरुर देवो महेश्वरः :
गुरु साक्षात परब्रह्म :
तस्मै श्री गुरुवे नमः :

We trusted our learned folks to guide us through the righteous path, and we trusted them before god himself. But this blatent justification of a religious bigot by a political pygmy is yet another feather in your cap. If not outrightly calling out the bigotary you could have saved yourself from the embarrasment by staying neutral and recusing yourself from this thread.

Why should I recuse myself from any thread? I fail to see what was wrong with my comment, and also fail to see why your sycophantic citation of the role of a guru should have any influence on anything else. It was these gurus, and their failure to learn, their narrow-mindedness and their clinging on to mediaeval prejudices that have inhibited the growth of Hinduism's various branches. It is because you trusted them before God himself, it is because you refused the Buddha's sane advice to question everything that we have our society in the shape that it is today, seeking a redeemer who will tell everyone what to do, and relieve us all of the trouble of thinking things through ourselves.

You have used excellent examples. That may sound strange since your examples offer no support for the vile abuse that you have used, but they are excellent because they offer us some insight into the murky recesses of a bigot's mind.

It probably would. He hates losing a chance to foam at the mouth. Without the benefit of liquid soap.

Hitler fought the british too till his death, that must mean Hitler must truly be a inspirational leader in your eyes :cheesy:

Hateful though he was, and is, he was inspirational to a very large number of Germans, and even to a lot of other Europeans.

As for putting the Marathas and the Nizam on the same page, you forget that in those days, everyone fought for himself, not for any higher national cause, or even a religious cause. Religion was used to promote their bloody wars by all who fought hegemonic wars, and there is no point in comparing that kind of religiosity with your kind.

.
A bit far fetched. Even the most ardent admirer of Tipu Sultan would concede he was no harbinger of communal harmony, whether it be to the Hindus or Christians. Providing he is being honest.

Regardless, if centrists or centre of left leaders are like this clown, then Secular India is truly doomed.

Did the MAN fought against the British for DHARMA or his own kingdom. How many countries who were attacked by the Islamic hordes survived to tell the tale?

For his own kingdom, as did the Marathas under the Peshwa, or the Nizam. Nobody fought for Dharma; you had not yet been born.

I have no doubt Hitler was inspirational to the Nazi's  ...... even to the neo nazi's of today.

So no doubt Tipu would be "inspirational' to the jihadis and bigots of that day and today. I have no doubt about that either.

I was thinking about the non jihadis, Glad that you cleared that up for us.

Very well said! If only people in the subcontinent understood this. Both the "taking back control side", and the "thousand years rule" one.

Exactly.

Two sets of severely limited intellects, each slaving away in its well-worn circular and unending track.

Do read up on the Anglo-Mysore wars before drawing absurd conclusions. Didn't Tipu's forces have to contend with both the Marathas and the Nizam.
