Time to Get Out of Afghanistan

"I'm sorry to disappoint you but Taliban still controls most of Afghanistan..."

B.S.

28% of the land the taliban have NO militarily significant presence. 72% of the land is contested.

Please understand, if you can, that we KICK THEIR AZZES when we show up. They CONTROL nothing that we choose to stand on.

Contested? Certainly, but only by our sporadic presence. Controlled? Get real.:disagree:

But still no Bin Laden.

How would you tell American people? How can a US soldier go home facing 911 victims and tell them we could not find Bin Laden?

I think in difficult times, great leaders always know how to charter the right course: The success is right around the corner, US needs just to be a bit more resilient than Bin Laden. Is that something too much to ask?

For all intents and purposes, the US moved out of Afghanistan once already (Iraq war), and nary a complaint.

Just have to find another issue to distract the electorate with, preferably not another war.

S-2 calls my buddy omar1984's comment BS. Instead of firing a tomahawk, I shot him with a sidewinder. That's all. :cheesy:

"But still no Bin Laden."

What has that got to do with Omar1984's inaccurately B.S. assertion?

"...Instead of firing a tomahawk, I shot him with a sidewinder. That's all."

Red herring? Poorly done. My feelings aren't hurt. We'll succeed or fail but, unlike most, we try and there I'll take my solace.

Are you suggesting that we invade Pakistan to find OBL? If so, it may be the first indication that you understand anything about this war, PROFESSOR:agree:

The US should turn over Afghanistan to the ISI again. Of course many (Indians and Iranians?) would scream

India would throw a tantrum, but Iran can be reasoned with. If the coalition government in Afghan gives sufficient representation to non-Pashtun ethnic groups, and if Arab influence is curtailed, then Iran would be happy.

Iran doesn't like NATO breathing down their neck up north.

The main reason Iran was against the Taliban was their alliance with Al Qaeda and Sunni Arab elements. Iran doesn't want to get "encircled" by Arabs.

As stupid as my this comment sounds....but I can't stop myself...

US can not and will not move out of Afghanistan till the time US world economy is in turmoil....because .....they need war to make sure that the weapon manufactureing Factories keep running......:cheesy::coffee:

Sounds stupid.....:hitwall:

Lets go back in History.....

Remember the great American Depression ....at the end of world war.....the entire economy almost died ...there was a huge number of Factories manufacturing Bombs...planes...Tanks....doing R&D....
Suddenly the war was over.....and no demand for weapons....factories got bankrupt..people lost jobs.....and rest is history....

So I believe...if they move out of Afghanistan...they will find some other Afghanistan....or May be they will create one.....

I mean look at at history..US is involved in countless wars...and the weapon requirement is ...endless.....First it was Cold War:cry:...Then Vietnam...Then Iraq...Then Afghanistan....and May Be... I want to apologies first for saying May be Pakistan is next...:undecided:

Just look at their history people.....their economy Juggernaut.....is fed on Wars.......:flame:

Afghanistan ala Iraq is not possible. At least with Iraq we had a much more developed society with all the trimmings of functional nation-state. The nature of the regime before the great change is beside the point. Afghanistan as a nation-building venture does not have good odds. Osama bin Laden fled into Pakistani territory and that is where the US should concentrate our efforts. Afghanistan and bin Laden are two distinct issues.

A comedian, eh? No 9/11 on our soil since either. We'll settle for that in the interim. Meanwhile, the case isn't closed and we haven't forgotten.

We'll see how you do-or don't- with A.Q.'s Uighar friends.:)

I'm as Patriotic as next American, but we should have never invaded Iraq should have focused more on Afghanistan, but as many have said, Can't pull out now, or everyone in the world thats Anti-U.S would say we lost the War... And can you also imagine how much more instability that would leave if we actually left? Civil revolution is just crying out in that country...I'm for our Troops because I have friends in the Armed Forces, but I'm not for the war..

.
Maybe they will manufacture a worldwide threat perception about Somali pirates and go bomb Somalia.

But maybe not. It's doesn't sound meaty enough to test out all their new toys...

I have noticed a lot of American news portals...blogs and....media....trying to create an air around Pakistan...starting Failing Government...to Nuclear threats to...Missile modifications...to Nuclear weapon count......everything I see....takes me back to the time when Iraq was being bulldozed with similar propaganda....:hitwall:

Let us see...Pakistan and India feud over some lands. Iraq invaded Kuwait for oil then was under sanctions for a decade. Syria, Libya and Iran engages in a low intensity conflict against Israel. And everyone in the ME worries about a nuclear Iran. The only option left is an all-out war between everyone. The region will not be any more 'unstable' than it was even before we overthrow Saddam Hussein.
