Jan dhan Yojna was supposed to open 75 million accounts by January 26th. But it achieved its target in November and is now heading to 100 million. Modi has hit a century in his debut match. By the end of 2015, 200 million people in India will join the banking system for the first time and will have a mastercard and an insurance cover for life.

Karan, at least 50% of those accounts are by those who already have accounts and are opening multiple accounts to get the overdraft facility and push up Banks numbers to make them look good. RBI and Bank officials have already warned of this.

That said, even if 50% of this number are new bank accounts - it is a massive achievement. GoI under BJP is opening more bank accounts for poor people in a week that GoI under Congress could open in a year!

And those who laugh at this - will regret soon enough. It takes honesty and acknowledgement of our problems to overcome them. It has taken a Modi to come out and force India to look at these problems - ruthlessly - and with the way things are moving, these will be overcome soon enough.

I think most of the problems are in the country side and involve schedule caste people. So unless India focus on these people, this campaign will surely fail.

U are wrong again... its not Cast problem.. So called Upper caste also don't use toilet.. In Rural area, Ppl like to go in field for nature call...

I have seen many so called upper caste houses where instead of having toilet they go to farm.

In one such house I asked permission to use toilet, The Answer I got "The Toilets are for ladies, Male go to fields(Bank of river), " Unwillingly I joined them...

This shows our strength to recognize our weakness and make it a national mission to remove that. We are spreading the awareness in the area and dealing with that. While people of some countries having similar problem are busy in mocking us if that will solve their open defection problem.
