My mother youngest brother recently just settled in Manchester. He moved there with her kids and wife. (His wife was a mainlander)

The reason why they move is because he is afraid of the government is going to take his money (which is already limited) He is the rich type in Hong Kong, having over hundred of millions of Hong Kong Dollar in the bank with 4 properties in Hong Kong. But when he move he can only move around 1 million Hong Kong dollar and can't even buy a home in Manchester.

Many people leave Hong Kong because of the same reason, not too many are for "freedom of right or vote" or whatever the Mainland Chinese want people to believe as "Troublemaker"

His original destination was Canada tho, but he can't get the visa to work and took up the BNO thing the UK offered.

This is exactly why mainland Chinese moved money whenever they could to the USA and bought property there. Even hired house sitters ! Guess they could do that if they were party members or of similar influence within ccp.

I just visited Turkey and met people from Hong Kong. Young adults looking for appartments in Izmir. Kids belonging to rich families. They had left Hong Kong because they are "worried" about the future.

A Chinese man and his family lived in one of the houses in my neighborhood, and the villa was guarded by private security personnel 24 hours a day. As I learned later from the landholder, he and his family bought a estate and settled in Istanbul permanently. There were probably also applications for citizenship.

Hopefully they don't come back, we don't need them.

This is exactly why mainland Chinese moved money whenever they could to the USA and bought property there. Even hired house sitters ! Guess they could do that if they were party members or of similar influence within ccp.

Used to be when people in China doing this, most of them are corrupted money. People high up will take bribe in order for some "Project" to pass into working stage, then they took those bribe, send their children to the US, UK, Canada or Australia with those money and when their children get citizenship there, the corrupted official follow, some got too greedy and get caught and were made an example out of it (usually execution).

But then that was before, when you can move money in and out of Hong Kong easy, nowadays, a lot of measure that were introduced to curb these "Blood Money" but instead were being target by the China "Wealth Redistribution" scheme. People earn their hard earn money cannot take their money out because every transaction over 10,000 is limited and you will have to fill in a form by IRD (tax people) stating and clearing the money, if IRD do not clear them, those money will stay in the bank literally forever.

The only way now is to take incremental amount every week (like 9000 every week) in order to by-pass IRD, but then that would be an issue if you need to go somewhere else because you can't bring millions dollar cash out of Hong Kong (That's illegal) which make it impossible to bring money out of Hong Kong and China.
