''Gentlemen, this is not the era of nineties, if you don't sell to us, we have several other options available to us now, who are ready and willing to supply us with our requirements''......the very words PAF Chief conveyed to the Americans during his recent visit to Washington and Pentagon. The visiting PAF delegation further stressed that at ''one point the PAF solely relied on US equipment which no doubt it found very reliable and efficient specially a platform like the F-16, which the PAF has expert iced on for over 30 years, however if hindrance and hurdles still prevail then PAF wouldn't and doesn't need to sit and wait in hope of clearance as PAF has evaluated or is in process of evaluating several platforms in both East and West''.... The statement of offer by the Russian minister is very much relevant in the Pentagon corridors. The news of China sending a J-31 to Pakistan is just not feasible for a brand new single platform to be transported with all the support systems, however a few PAF pilots evaluating the J-31 in China can't be ruled out. It's also worth mentioning that the eight F-16s ordered are standard Block-52s with some extra PAF specific gadgets.

. . . .
Think these 8 are just for Addition into the Existing 18 F-16 block 52 and made 2 squads of 13 each instead of 1

But the original demand from PAF was of 36 f-16s which was cut half bcoz of earth quake in 2005 due to financial restraints.. One would have assumed tht PAF would have liked to meet its original requirement of 36 and hence requested for atleast 18 more.... But 8 is just too less

may be they are now looking for other jets instead of F-16's....

or another scenario ACM Sohail asked for 18 F-16 and USA allowed/agreed only 8

I believe US is India conscious they feed media with half truth after 8 jets they will approve 10 more to avoid India's cry.

@Windjammer do u know...whats the logic and wisdom behind requesting only 8 more f-16s from US?

It's to bring No 5 squadron to it's full strength, as i said elsewhere (Not my views), apart from it's combat duties, the squadron is also engaged in the training of Block-52 pilots something like an OCU, hence it needs the additional aircraft to maintain it's both combat and training role side by side without one effecting the other....interestingly this squadron was also the first to be equipped with brand new Mirage-3 aircraft numbering 24....18 were strike/interceptors, 3 for Reece missions while another 3 were dual seat trainers.

nope i don't think India will cry just on 18 or 8 F-16.... The News Came was USA likely to sell 8 F-16's to Pakistan.... But it still Need Congress Approval for selling it to Pakistan... So there's only 8 not 18 if it gets Congress Approval.....

Albeit, it's only 8 aircraft but believe me India is crying , the inside news is that Indian lobby is making a lot of noise trying to block the sale.....i guess they have some idea how capable these aircraft are....specially the ''D'' version.
