What's new

This is Absolutely Sick!

Read the 'About' section of the magazine. It is a noir portrayal of the dark nature of the present world presented with sarcasm. This is how it is. Look deeper. :)
Do Charlie Hebdo finds any dark sarcasm on the Paris attacks?? No? Why? Because it will hurt the people feelings about the tragic incident that happened to the FRENCH and the WESTERN PEOPLE??

It's the right that has to be defended, guys!
The validity of freedom of expression is only actuated if all are covered.

When I wrote about the attacks last year, I said as much by specifying
that Charlie Hebdo made a career out of going too far in all ways and
always. I believe sincerely one should be free to express anything they
want but then again, I don't have to agree with nor respect your opinion.

I never defended Charlie-Hebdo's ideas, just their right to voice them!
And BTW, getting called racist due to my location of birth is just as stupid,
especially coming from a land with built-in racism as in the caste system.
But I don't discredit all Indians ( in this particular case ) for one sad comment
and no matter how wrong I may feel it to be, I support his right to express it.

It's not right to laugh at the death of innocents but it is a right, nonetheless!

Peace out, Tay.

I agree with you.

I urge muslim cartoonists to make fun of Holocaust, World War, Spainsh Iquisition victims and specially the french victims of Nazism on regular basis and facebook is best medium for that.

Peace out, Shahid

In 2013, Norwegian Newspaper Dagbladet published this comic, which circulated in Norway.

12341-e1369831298759.jpg

Jewish groups on Wednesday sharply condemned Norway’s third-largest paper, Dagbladet, for publishing a cartoon that one group said was “so virulently anti-Semitic it would make Hitler and Himmler weep tears of joy.”

In the cartoon, printed by the paper on Tuesday and meant to oppose the Jewish ritual of circumcising baby boys, the mother of a Jewish child is seen holding a blood-soaked Torah while saying, “Mistreating? No this is tradition, an important part of our belief!”

At the other end of the child, who’s sprawled on the table, a Jewish man — either the boy’s father or a rabbi — is in the midst of stabbing the boy in the forehead with a three-pronged devil’s pitchfork while cutting off his toes.

Norway paper's cartoon 'so anti-Semitic it would have made Hitler weep with joy' | The Times of Israel

...

This was the response of Jewish leaders:

“We call upon Norway’s leaders to denounce this incitement to hate and especially urge the ombudsman for children’s rights to denounce this outrageous denigration of a core Jewish rite dating back to the biblical times of Abraham,” Cooper said.

That's it, a statement. No violence, no threats, just a plea to have the comic, which is in very bad taste, as are Charlie Hebdo's, removed from circulation.

...

This comic, like those put out by Charlie Hebdo, are designed to incite a reaction. Don't play their game, just ignore their bigotry or lack of taste and manners and move on. They are only offensive if you let them be. They only hurt you if you let them. Responding only fuels their passions and promotes additional comics while playing right into the narrative they are pushing.

Responding negatively only hurts the responder, not Charlie Hebdo.

But like @Taygibay said this, Freedom of Speech and Expression, is a right we will defend, even at the expense of your sensibilities. Any action against our rights only hardens our conviction to uphold them.

The French people are NOT OUT on the streets protesting against the French magazine. Why should Indians and Pakistanis do that? Especially why Indians? Doves? Peace pu$$ies? Moral guardians of the world, eh?

Btw, they did an issue on the Paris episode as well. If you don't get what French post modernism is, well, don't get it. :)
It seems you don't like their way of life. Fair enough. Don't go there. :)

sorry.. i can't see any sarcasm here. Maybe my sense of humor is not upto the mark! :(
Point 1 - Did you read the issue? Or are you judging it by the cover alone?
Point 2 - Are you aware of the New French Extremity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

^^This has got nothing to do with physical extremism

What did Malcolm X say, "If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing".

Satire has changed from defending the powerless via mocking prejudices into comforting the powerful by targeting and inciting against the powerless.

Still I believe in free speech.

People are giving these idiots exactly what they want: Attention.

They are just some attention whores and by publishing cartoons like this, all they do is seeking it.

By publishing their work and saying it's disgusting, you are just making their cheap and garbage humor being seen even more. The exact same thing was done by those terrorist bastards who attacked the magazine building and killed its staff, it only got them more popular. How many of you had heard of Charlie Hebdo before attacks?

Still I believe in free speech.

That's the whole idea, bravo!

As in : I'll love despite the haters. Same.
Do the right thing ( pun intended ) ...
and never mind the idiots! Whichever ...

Tay.

The magazine and the cartoon itself is being criticized all over the world-

What is unacceptable is their duel standards on two events which may not be similar but are equally disgraceful for the humanity.
Thanks for the translation.

I am not talking about the world's bleeding hearts. Where are the French protests in numbers?

And yes, the paper is as much a disgrace as putting lead in between one's eyes and putting an end to lives. Brilliant. :enjoy:

French humor is disgusting.
I just don't get this.

The cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed reflect the same kind of derogatory stereotypes of Muslims that this particular cartoon does - derogatory racial & religious stereotyping of largely Muslim refugees from the Middle East --- but there is something horrible and heartbreaking in their use of Aylan Kurdi. Historical figures like Prophet Mohammed are largely distant entities, and even satirical discourse over their beliefs and impact is understandable to some degree.

Aylan Kurdi was a an innocent 2 year old, whose death was a horrible reflection on the failures of humanity. Even now that picture brings tears, and with those tears comes a deep rage directed at Charlie Hebdo for maligning the innocence of a child and exploiting his tragic death for the sake of cheap publicity.

Honte à vous, Charlie Hebdo!

The answer to deliberate provocations and incitements such as these is not to forcibly suppress freedom of speech, but for societies to use that same freedom of speech and choice to condemn and shun those who would exploit freedoms to propagate xenophobia, hatred and racism.

Freedom of speech is not a disgrace but Charlie Hebdo is making it a disgrace by mocking the dead infant as a potential future rapist.
And also this cartoon does not justify the terrorist attacks on Paris and on Hebdo's office though both the cartoon and the attacks are equally shameful.

Its a *White Man's world.

*Non-muslims

“There are many humorous things in the world, among them the white man's notion that he is less savage than the other savages”

Quote by another white man (Mark Twain) about white man.
