‘They don’t have power to negotiate!’ Trump cancels talks with Taliban after attack kills US soldier

Lol so there goes peace talks. As feared Taliban are inherently stupid to seize any opportunity. They still bomb Kabul in the middle of peace talks.

Either so called Taliban leaders have no control over their foot soldiers who can change sides anyway. Or they are just stupid as f and want to be in state of war. If its former then its even worse, it mean this farce of peace deal will not go anywhere. Remind me of our own peace deals with TTP.

If some believe conspiracies from across the border then it would make it sound like that Pakistan is behind failed peace talks to put more pressure on US to act on IoK.

Or may be you simply have no clue on what's going on in the world and how Taliban reached to the stage of making the mighty USA bow down to the negotiating table?
Trump was never going to go through with the talks because the American deep state was never behind him on it, he was just buying time and trying to force Taliban to cease attacks so he can push in all the blackwater mercs and withdraw regular soldiers. They are not their to rule over Afghanistan, they are to disturb Pakistan and China through Afghanistan, and they can't afford leaving that area. If the Taliban had fallen for the trap, then they would have been fighting ruthless and soul less crazy mercs right now.

If my ability to shoot bullets at some one forces them to the negotiating table, I will not be foolish enough to stop shooting those bullets. It's called the Art of War, and it's fine if you don't get it but might want to avoid looking stupid by referring to people who know what they are doing as stupid.

Taliban are responsible for this issue, they continue to attack Afghan government and cities while pretending to reach a deal with US. This is not how a deal is teached.

I have repeatedly pointed out in this forum that YOU cannot reason with snakes. Pakistan held talks with TTP several times, to no avail.

I can only feel sorry for your simplicity and inability to know stuff.
You refer to "the Taliban" as snakes and equate them with TTP? You gotta be among the ones with absolutely no clue on what's actually going on, do you?

If the USA wants a way out she has to directly talk to Pak and negotiate the terms in a comprehensive manner!! Everything else is a waste of time.....
Only Donald Trump desire an end to American military presence in Afghanistan.

Pentagon desire a prolonged stay in Afghanistan on the other hand. Money is not an issue for Americans, they can fight for indefinite period in Afghanistan if they want to.

Problem is how long Pakistan's economy can bear the pressure of wars in Afghanistan?

Taliban are an incredibly stupid bunch.

Dude, I know much more then what I have mentioned in my post. Do you expect me to explain the history of Taliban in every post before I come to the point?

I am highlighting a mindset. Afghan Taliban and TTP diverged in their goals, but mindset is similar more or less - politically inflexible and culturally intolerant.

If you desire lasting peace, you demonstrate this resolve with your actions. But attacks demonstrate otherwise.

As I pointed out above, Taliban are an incredibly stupid bunch.

The main question is, was there a ceasefire agreed upon? I don't think so.. they were waiting for it to be signed

Afghan government is about to loose Kabul pretty soon. Trump can bitch all he wants. Unless he launches a new invasion of the country all over again from scratch, there is nothing he is going to do that can keep him from being thrown out of Afghanistan.
Let him bleed a bit more for giving into the demands of his deep state.
He is the same joker whose sub ordinate refused to sign the deal he was pushing for and now he had to run a face saving campaign by acting as if he is the one cancelling the talks.

(CNN)President Donald Trump said Saturday that Taliban leaders were to travel to the US for secret peace talks this weekend along with the President of Afghanistan at Camp David, but that the meeting has been canceled and he's called off peace talks with the militant group entirely.

Trump tweeted that he scrapped the meeting after the Taliban took credit for an attack in Kabul, Afghanistan, that killed a dozen people, including an American soldier.

US service member killed in Kabul suicide car bomb attack

Inviting Taliban leaders onto American soil is an unprecedented move and a significant development in America's longest running war just days from the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. It comes after Trump said as recently as late last month that he is planning to withdraw thousands of US forces from Afghanistan but will keep 8,600 troops in the country at least for the time being. It's not clear if Trump's Saturday night announcement will impact that plan.
"Unbeknownst to almost everyone, the major Taliban leaders and, separately, the President of Afghanistan, were going to secretly meet with me at Camp David on Sunday," Trump tweeted Saturday night.
Trump claimed that before traveling to the US on Saturday evening, "Unfortunately, in order to build false leverage, they admitted to......an attack in Kabul that killed one of our great great soldiers, and 11 other people."
"I immediately cancelled the meeting and called off peace negotiations," Trump added.
The President slammed the leaders for thinking that the attacks would improve their negotiating position.
"What kind of people would kill so many in order to seemingly strengthen their bargaining position?" he tweeted. "They didn't, they ... only made it worse!"
The State Department referred CNN to the White House for comment.
The insurgent group has not halted its campaign of violence as the peace talks with the US have taken place but Thursday's killing of an American when a deal was reportedly close appears to have prompted the dramatic move from the President.
The Pentagon announced Friday that Sgt. 1st Class Elis Angel Barreto Ortiz was killed in Afghanistan. Barreto, a 34-year-old paratrooper from Morovis, Puerto Rico, died when a car bomb exploded at a checkpoint near NATO headquarters and the US embassy in Kabul. Barreto is the 16th US service member to be killed in Afghanistan in 2019, and three other American service members have been killed in recent weeks.
The Afghan government did not push for the cancellation of the meeting at Camp David after the Taliban attack this week, it was a decision by the White House and the State Department, according to a source familiar with the planning.
Despite Trump saying in his tweet Saturday that peace negotiations are called off, new dates are being discussed by the White House for a potential meeting with the Taliban and the Afghan government, the source says. It's unclear if the Taliban will have to make hard and fast commitments before the meeting or if Trump is using the cancellation and rescheduling simply as a negotiating tactic.
The US troop withdrawals could mark the beginning of the conflict triggered by 9/11 that has cost billions in taxpayer dollars and claimed more than 2,300 American lives.
In his tweets, Trump cast doubt on the leaders' bargaining abilities in light of the killings.
"If they cannot agree to a ceasefire during these very important peace talks, and would even kill 12 innocent people, then they probably don't have the power to negotiate a meaningful agreement anyway," he added. "How many more decades are they willing to fight?"
Secret meeting in the works
Earlier this week CNN was told by a source informed on the matter that the State Department and the National Security Council were working on scheduling a US-Afghan government meeting as well as a US-Taliban meeting on US soil, though the location was never explicitly stated. Afghanistan wanted it sooner rather than later, but the US side was looking at the middle of this month as the most likely date.
Trump was involved in the planning personally, hoping that it would come to fruition in the coming week, the source said. He got personally attached to the outcome and the logistics of the talks after meeting with top advisers about the Afghan peace process in August. Before that, US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad had been given a long leash to do the negotiating to bring all parties -- including the Taliban -- to an agreement.
The Afghan government had for months been frustrated that they had not been invited to Washington by Trump during his first two and a half years in office. Afghan officials had planned to come last year right after UN General Assembly meeting but the trip fell apart because the timing did not work out, and the Trump administration canceled the visit.
Trump's announcement Saturday comes as the US and the Taliban appeared to be close to finalizing a peace deal. The lead US negotiator Zalmay Khalilzad returned to Doha, Qatar, this week to resume talks with the Taliban.
Khalilzad had told Afghanistan's TOLOnews on Monday that the US and the Taliban have reached an agreement "in principle," pending final approval by Trump.
Khalilzad said that based on the draft agreement, the US would pull troops from five bases across Afghanistan within 135 days so long as the Taliban met conditions set out in the agreement. The US currently has about 14,000 service members in Afghanistan, alongside NATO troops, helping to train and advise Afghan troops and conducting counterterrorism operations.
This story has been updated with additional developments Saturday.
What trump really says is : I have signed the agreement of murder of all US staff in Afghanistan.
No one will be able to leave alive. But none of his children are serving in Afghanistan, so no problem.

What was I telling you folks a few days ago? This peace deal is as thin as a razor. We always have a plan B and that ain't difficult.

None of our fvcking concern. Let’s now press ahead with repatriation of Afghans and close the border. Americans want a war. Trump is unreliable and the deep state runs the show. Clearly the deep state prefers the war to go on. Good for them.

Pompeo did, I doubt if Mr. President would even know the word "unbeknownst". keep telling you all that it is just play acting, no one is leaving Afghanistan

I guess we are back to square one. Won’t make an iota of difference.

Pakistan should also cancel Pentagon visit. It doesn’t make any sense to have this visit.

i think Pakistan should not support peace talk and propagate that it was the best that they could do for the world but US dnt want peace just let the talibaan do their work . we are already fencing our border.

This is exactly how it needs to be. Don’t waste any energy anymore. We did our best. Now let’s sit back.

If the Americans pressure Pakistan we need to layout our options. Because this is going to be the next American tactic. Pressure Pakistan as always.

Afghan government is about to loose Kabul pretty soon. Trump can bitch all he wants. Unless he launches a new invasion of the country all over again from scratch, there is nothing he is going to do that can keep him from being thrown out of Afghanistan.

Well, we can expect a full fledged war between the Taliban and the US/NATO forces since the talks have failed. These talks aren’t coming back on track. It would make Trump look weak and pathetic if he goes back to the negotiating table. A war is now the only option and it is going to intensify folks. It is going to be nasty and ugly.

Pakistan has to be prepared and take full measures to control the border. Expect false flag terrorist attacks on our side. We are back to square one.

LOL Trump said he could finish off Afghanistan in a day or two. Let’s see if he goes through with his plan.

A relevant story of a guy who was looking to sell his restaurant

True story, told to me by the person involved in it.

There was a restaurant in Melbourne owned by an Indian who was running it at a loss. The restaurant had been successful but over time it lost customers and restaurant first came to break-even and then started losing money every month. The owner was looking for someone to take over for some $200K Australian Dollars. One Australian fellow came to know about it and offered him $140K. It was significantly less than the price Indian was expecting and refused the offer. After waiting a month and finding no other offer, the guy came back to cut a deal at $160~170K but this time the Australian buyer offered $120K instead. The owner got frustrated and complained that were you not offering $140K before so why are you sliding down on your offer and in anger left the negotiation. The restaurant was still losing and waiting was coming at a cost of ongoing salaries, rent, and meal/maintenance expenses. If he had shut it down, the closed restaurant would've sold at an even low price; the price of old furniture, cutlery and old kitchen appliances only.

Another 15 days later, the Indian called this OZ and expressed his desire to meet on the condition that last offered $120K is still on the offer, but the Australian guy said what $120? It is 80K if you take the price today. Indian fellow abused him over the phone and hang up, only 3 hours later visiting him in person with an apology and agreeing to sell at $80K.

Now, this American anger is reminding me of the above story. There is nothing that Americans will gain by waiting. Will they inject more mone? more soldiers? more military hardware to repeat what they've been doing and failing in 19 years? It's a stupid move by Americans to call off the dialogue. They don't have a spectrum of choices to choose from. They will eventually come back to the negotiation table and will have to accept tougher conditions from the Taliban. This American restaurant will be sold for less than $80K in the future.
It's known as the law of diminishing returns.

I will sum this whole fiasco in just one sentence. The Americans are too stubborn and arrogant to strike a peace deal.

The Americans are divided. They don’t have unity among themselves. The deep state says one thing, the Afghans say another and Trump says something entirely different. The cherry on top of the cake, they want Pakistan to resolve everything.

It is impossible to have a peace deal with the Taliban or Timbuktu for that matter. We are dealing with an extremely stubborn party that frankly is not looking for peace, but something else. The problem for the Americans is that they cannot beat the Taliban or even ISIS who is now gaining strength. The odds are massively stacked against the Americans. They like to call it a stalemate, but in reality it is sheer loss.

The American deep state was brought to Afghanistan to target Pakistan. They simply cannot afford to lose their bases there. Not to forget they have involved indians into the who thing and indians will beg to keep them there.

But as I said, Afghanistan is lost for Americans, if they won't go out peacefully, they will be moving out in body bags soon. Trump wanted the peace deal as a medal for his re election, now he will lose the election after what follows in Afghanistan.

Trump is not only going to lose the elections after this. The carnage that is about to follow on both sides is unimaginable.

I give you guys one hint. Watch out for Trump tweets. This guy is about to implode and do something suicidal in Afghanistan. When Trump said he could win the war in Afghanistan by brute force he meant that. He said that whilst Imran Khan was sitting right next to him!

Brute force means nothing. There is no Taliban infrastructure for him to bomb from the air. And there is no amount of soldiers he can throw in to win by numbers.
Taliban are guerrilla fighters and if they could withstand the initial missile strike and bombing by the US & co in 2001, they can withstand anything they can throw on them now.
The only thing he could do to win would be to nuke the whole country...

They used the MOAB. After that the Taliban won more territory.

I get your point, but Trump is now going to resort to plan B which is the use of more lethal force. What other options does he have? Of course brute force won’t win him anything, but there will be more dead bodies. All I am saying is that Pakistan needs to be fully prepared for any eventuality. We cannot afford another security crisis on our side after sacrificing so much.

what's a donny?

So it means briefcase of dollars and virgins at the camp are cancelled, what a loss for the Talib negotiators.

Not for Ghani and khanzeer Karzai. LOL CIA coffers filled with dollars are coming in thick and fast.

Things dont add up honestly. Me thinks it's not the donny who just cancelled the peace deal but the other way around.

Donny cancelled it. He is under immense pressure from the deep state. You can include India and the Afghan government as well. You have a troika that don’t want this peace deal. They want a peace deal under their own terms and conditions. Although, they cannot have it their own way because the Taliban are in control.

We had the following situation: India+Afghanistan+US deep state/NATO versus Trump+Pakistan

This has now changed back to: India+Afghanistan+US deep state/NATO+Trump versus Pakistan

That is why I keep saying that Pakistan needs to have a full contingency plan.

Well indians & Esp their Media lives in a bollywood World anyway, They keep producing Fake Stories to feel good & blame Pakistan for each & everything...

The Reality is Simple & Straight Foward ; At one stage U.S will pullout bcz people in US are tired of this Shit War in Afg..& india isn't taking over the role of USA in Afg - USA asked india but they refused.. we all know how Trump Mocked Modi for his library thing lol..

No matter What indians say but in the end US will pullout & delusional indians will come to senses.. US isn't going to stay in Afg forever just to please Crying Baby (india)..

Talks will restart once again but after 2,3 months once taliban leadership get their shit together & announce some sort of ceasefire - once US Pullsout then Talibans can do whatever they want..
The US will never pull out willingly. Why the whole point of the false flag of 9/11 was to have military bases in Afghanistan.
