Interesing fact: Vietnam has one of the world´s largest rare earth reserves: 22 million tons. "Rare earths" are a group of 17 chemically similar elements crucial to the manufacture of many hi-tech products.

When the mineral resources of Afghanistan are properly explored, there may be another name on the list.
Having natural resources is one thing but using it to develop manufacturing sectors is another thing. Otherwise when resources run out, people will fall back to poverty.

No doubt.

I was commenting exclusively on the aspect of the resources base. I read somewhere - correct me if I am wrong - that iron ore doesn't become stainless steel without considerable processing. Perhaps that applies to aluminium, to titanium, and so on.

that´s right. just exporting natural resources is stupid. Japan is rich without anything given by nature. Singapore is another example. you can become rich by hard working.

India has largest reserves of human excreta dumped on streets. Oh and thats the smell that pulls the investors to India the shuper trooper power

FULL MARKS!

You noticed that investors come to India, smell and all. Maybe to get there, you need to take your lotas outdoors.

Specially chinese eyes on those mines. Chinese sitting with billions in pakistan.

It is truly impressive to see the level of geo-strategic sophistication suddenly visible and on display.
  1. They are sitting in Pakistan.
  2. They have billions because they didn't spend it it Pakistan; instead, they are cancelling and slowing down projects, because they simply can't figure out what happens to the money. That's why they have billions to spend.
  3. The US is proven stupid, otherwise they would get the Chinese interested in exploiting Afghanistan's natural resources, for the mutual benefit of Afghanistan and the PRC. Once that happens, expect the ISI to shut down its Afghanistan operations and meekly toe the higher than a mountain, deeper than the ocean, and sweeter than honey line. Don't expect any concessions to the Taliban; the Chinese showed what they thought of religion intruding into their national interest in Xinjiang.

I am afraid that I don't get into involved discussions with newbies.

You are probably right.
