SEOUL/WASHINGTON Nov 11 (Reuters) - Washington wants to buy South Korean artillery shells to send to Ukraine, a U.S. official said on Friday, even as Seoul insisted that the United States must be the ammunition's end user and that its policy against lethal aid for Ukraine is unchanged.

The U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss ongoing negotiations, confirmed that Washington wanted to send South Korean 155mm artillery shells to Ukraine.

The official said that Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) funds could be used to purchase the ammunition, but that it was unclear whether it would be shipped though U.S. territory.

South Korea's defence ministry, however, said that its position of not providing lethal aid to Ukraine is unchanged and that the negotiations are being conducted "under the premise that the U.S. is the end user."

So funny that a war in Ukraine emptied US ammunition inventory, who is actually fighting that war?

dude, 100,000 round of 155 will NOT emptied US inventory, they are having a war, they will go for whoever have stock, and since US is the backer of the entire Ukrainian military using American money, it's only natural for the American to buy it for them.

And before that, you do know the following country supplies 155mm munition to Ukraine??

  1. Australia
  2. Belgium
  3. Canada
  4. Croatia
  5. Czech Rep
  6. Denmark
  7. Estonia
  8. Finland
  9. France
  10. Germany
  11. Italy
  12. Netherland
  13. Norway
  14. Pakistan
  15. Poland
  16. Slovakia
  17. United Kingdom
  18. United States of America
Yes, US probably run out of 155 Artillery Shell since May when they ask 17 countries to donate...

Read the whole thread from OP article, South Korea is just one sources that US is trying to get ammo, not all.

Again, you have an active war going on, how many rounds do you think it is going to spend?

I listed 17 countries that send 155mm rounds to Ukraine, does that mean anything at all?? Does that mean that 17 countries also have "Emptied" their stock and now they turn to South Korea??

This come from your own source (The ABC article)

The amount of shells Washington has provided "is probably close to the limit that the United States is willing to give without risk to its own war fighting capabilities," Mr Cancian said.

But as I said, if you believe US 155mm stock is only at 100,000 and it "Emptied" after they send them to Ukraine, please do go ahead and believe that. I have no problem for you to do that.

I don't know how much ammo they can still send, but I do know they won't last long without a massive industrial and manufacturing home base like China.

dude, you don't need a "Massive" manufacturer base to make 155 rounds. I can make it at home, if I was given a lathe machine, PETN and proximity fuse.

I don't know how "Complicated" you think to make a single 155 rounds.

The reason why we are running out of weapon is because nobody, I REPEAT, NOBODY, would endanger their own defence and national security to send everything in their armoury to Ukraine. What country send is what they will use in variety way regardless, either in the range for exercise or use it in actual fight which we still have a few going on in the world. Sending those does not mean you don't need to train with live round. And it will take time to make 100,000 rounds (probably a month)

Then good luck, south Korea seems to have put a limit on the use of their ammo, US should try to find ammos somewhere else.

They can't put limit on how they use, they can only refuse to sell, if they sold it to the US, that mean they okay with them being used in Ukraine.

Since You said no countries would endanger their own defence and national security to send everything in their armoury to Ukraine, south Korea is a country constantly threatened by North Korea, it won't sell much of their inventory, so US still needs to find ammos somewhere else.

Again, 100,000 is NOT a lot. And it's not really a level it will deplete anything.

100,000 round 155 is probably a month worth of munition used by a Artillery Regiment in war. 18 guns a regiment, 5555 rounds per gun per month, which mean you only have 185 rounds per gun a day. That's not going to last long.

If South Korea have problem sending 100,000 rounds to Ukraine without endangering their own defence, I will say they had already lost the war, North Korea should have just march into Seoul now.

South Korea is just one source that US is trying to get ammo, not all sources, why you only talk about 100,000 but failed to see the whole picture from OP article?

US won't be able to support Ukraine more in the near future, even Biden becomes frustrated. lol..
