The problem with Pakistan's blasphemy laws

So what is their job that they want as easy?? and blasphemy laws are helping Mullahs can you explain??

Subjugate people who do not agree with them…like they used to do in dark ages in other places. Heresy, blaspheme, witch hunting, burn at stake all are reminisces of dark ages which are prevalent in Pakistan and since Zia's time.

Sure enough we have seen the dark ages with our own eyes and there are plenty of posters here supporting such dark age tactics....all in 21st century. With such venom and hate towards others in the so called "educated" class it’s a miracle that we don't have more Faisal Shyzads.

I would personally support immediate deportation of any one supporting blaspheme laws i.e. killing anyone for their beliefs. Funny enough same fanatics will not accept an iota of bar on their beliefs or freedom of expression no matter how fanatic and dangerous sounding their views are.

I took the liberty of contacting the author, Dr. Faheem Younus, to tell him of our discussion. Here is his response:

Thank you for sharing. I appreciate it.

All I am asking is an approach towards dialogue - and no killings in the name of the most compassionate and forgiving person the world has seen - Muhammad (saw).

Our hearts bleed when we as Muslims, provide ammunition to the West by our failed understanding of Islam to attack the character of Holy Prophet (saw) , or any prophet for that matter.

We are together in trying to make the free world udnerstand, hey let's not insult ANY prophet. Period. But we can only get there by dialogue and mutual respect. Not by killings.

I end with the following verse of Holy Quran -not to start another debate around it - but for us to reflect.

[10:100] And if thy Lord had (enforced) His will, surely, all who are on the earth would have believed together. Wilt thou, then, force men to become believers?

Best,

whether it's the root cause of extremism I'm not sure but regardless of that blasphemy laws should be scrapped until the 80s during zia there was never any blasphemy laws for so many years and nobody insulted islam back then it's a useless law. If you look at the history of it's use it's only ever been abused as a weapon to settle personal disputes and terrorize minorities it's never done any good for pakistan and needs to go.

Do you know a famous character Ghazi Ilm din Shaheed or Raj Pal. Go back in history you will find many more. Now the media is fast and the thing is propagated in no time so comes the reaction.

I think we need to get these lines straight.

If you think that TTP are still in Islamic brotherhood then let me assure you they are not even if they pretend to be.

400 page fatwa against TTP by Dr: Tahir Ul Qadri which was signed by hundreds of leading islamic scholars is in Icon in our country , moreover the Supreme Islamic Council of Saudi Arabia has outlawed all of these Terror activities as the acts of Kufar.

After these fatwas on this higher level all Muslims must do ijma'a on denouncing TTP now its an obligation.

I hope you dont disagree with me on this point , see Maulana sarfaraz naeemi laid down his life for the sake of Saving Islam from these basterds , he was murdered in cold blood for raising his voice against TTP.

You remember before sawat ops Taliban were posing as saviours but soon locals knew who they were.

Son these thugs are politically motivated and use Islam as an excuse and they are abusing our religion to an international level.

If you dont believe this then its sad.
you dont get to decide who is a muslim and who is not.

the TTP claim to be muslim. they follow the koran to the best of their understanding and ability.

if their interpretation of the words of the koran are different from your interpretation, it doesnt make them any less the followers of the koran and in turn muslims.

i dont support the TTP in any manner and given the chance would wipe them out from this planet. however your claim that they are not part of the "muslim brotherhood" doesnt stand to reason.

I am not Supreme Islamic council of Saudi araia does , our Leading scholars have said so.

They know **** about Islam , all they know is how to kill people.

Yes it does , Quran is not Bible that can be interprated a million ways , its one Ultimate message.

They are not a part of Islamic brotherhood neither they can prove that.

even the supreme council of the smartest muslim men in the world is not qualified to judge whether a person is a muslim or not. as long as the person claims to be one and follows the koran to the best of his understanding and ability, he will be a muslim

They know **** about Islam , all they know is how to kill people.

they know **** and you know exactly what the koran says !!!!
is it not possible that you are wrong?

lets be realistic. the koran is as claimed by the muslims "a book from god containing his message". it is the ultimate message and written in the words of god. but the words still need to be interpreted genius. even your great moulvis dont always agree on the interpretation of the words so please dont give me that ****

They are not a part of Islamic brotherhood neither they can prove that.

now you are being stubborn and not giving any new arguments. "you" dont consider them to be part of the muslim brotherhood. others might. no one can prove himself/herself to be part of the muslim brotherhood. it isnt an organization with registered members with a list of members or an identity card that the members can carry around.

If the Quran cannot be interpreted, then why does this discussion exists? Why are there killings in the name of $religion ? You may not like a particular interpretation and reject it, but then to someone else the same argument also goes to whatever interpretation you make or chose to accept and he reject yours. If 'holy' scriptures are so  clear  then why do we have sects? When people like you make that kind of comment, what you really mean is YOUR interpretations, or whoever you follow, are the correct ones and everyone else be damned, literally or figuratively speaking. I would think that when it comes to one's supposedly eternal soul, religionists should settle their own internal philosophical discrepancies and disagreements before telling everyone how correct they are at interpreting the godhood. Heck...Even furnitures with 'Some assembly required' instructions are more clear than these 'holy' scriptures.

How is it that Ilm din did this "nobel" task but none of the major scholars of the time, presumably more pious and knowledgeable in shariat than aIlm din, carried it out? What did they not know what Ilm din knew?

People who give fatwas are qualified to do so and i agree with them , TTP are a Bunch of Kafirs.

stop defending them !!

the europeans are some what responsible too, knowing, muslims are very strict about their religion, mocking our prophet pbuh, then writing quranic verses on a nude lady, banning minarets, hijab etc while keeping in mind who the world is duing to their holy sites in iraq and afghanistan. this breeds extremism and intolerance. blood shed in kashmir, afghanistan, iraq, palestine and now pakistan has been from decades now. in needs to be stopped before muslim intolerance grows more wild.. while one the other hand the jews which have always disrespected jesus and mock christians are protected through laws, holocaust cannot be criticised, their history of holocaust is unfairly exaggerated.

it is also true that muslims go to europe and US to have a good life, but still show their thumbs down in their own country. the reaction should not be wild but logical..

i have seen the videos of intolerant behavious of jews in israel, they mock christians, and say this is our land, go away etc.

Your thinking's are conserved and what you said is not your fault....

i hope someday you will find the truth that there is a thing in this world which is called humanity.....

you seems to me not more than an energetic fool.

.
If defending my Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and my Holy Quran make's me TRAITOR than iam the biggest TRAITOR u can find in Pakistan.
You're not defending the Prophet but your own ego. The Prophet's personality does not need your defence, he has his own character and life to speak for himself.

Either that or you (meaning people like you) have no comprehension what it means to live a normal peaceful life, where things are settled through debate, words and intellect.

This is not a defence of the Prophet, you're insulting the Prophet in the biggest possible way - by making a mockery out of his peaceful, tolerant message.

hindus and sikhs have been killed due to this medevil law 2 sikhs were behaeded only 2 months back and 6 christians burnt alive nr karachi 3/4 months back due to this islamic law
To be fair its not because of this law. There is yet to be any official lawful execution on the basis of blasphemy in Pakistan.
