Most Pakistanis do not know who is Mir Jafar, the general of Moghul descendent Nawab Siraj-ud-Doula of Bengal and what role he played in the fateful 1857 war against British East Indian army at Pollasi ground. He had some small issues related to perks and privileges with the Nawab and he hold high ambition in secret to become Nawab himself. In the day of war the Bengal army was numerically and equipment wise superior with cannons, elephants and horse against less then five thousand British field army with no major canons. But they hatched a conspiracy with some businesses men and promised Mir Jafar would be the next Nawab if British win. In the war other small Bengal battalions like hindu general Mir Madan fought valiantly and almost defeated the British. But Mir jafar, who was commanding the largest battalion of twenty thousand men, just stand silently and in crucial time decided he need a recess for Asar prayer. The British took the opportunity and reorganize to defeat the Nawab army just prior to dusk. Bengal which was the richest province of then India as it was the grain basket like Punjab came under cruel British rule and when British left it became the poorest province of India.
Now if you do analogy what happened in the last few weeks in Pakistan. As COAS himself said army supported all the way IK government and due to this extra ordinary support opposition used to call IK a "Selected" PM. But due to IKs role of an assertive PM and desire of an independent foreign policy there was a class between IKs government and establishment though publicly it was denied and said military and civilian are on same page. The foreign powers mainly US and opposition parties took these opportunity as their interest aligned to oust IK and horse trading started to break the IK government weak alliances. But during crucial moment of no confidence vote till last minute IK still hoped that establishment will come to rescue him but they become suddenly "neutral" or "apolitical" as DG ISPR put it that way. This was a defining moment for Pakistan and IK but establishment turned their back when he needed them most. You can decide yourselves who are the Mir Jafars of these days of Pakistan.
