What's new

The majority of the world wants the US, not China, as the worlds top power

And they can give the exact number of people who participated inth poll, like 1251 Vietnamese. But the question is how they execute the poll: on the streets, where 99% do not speak English, or at American cultural centers?

Most publics surveyed prefer the American leadership.

Good to know, but world leadership is achieved by hard work and not just preferences of a majority. To the victor ....

I think the fact that the world holds China in such low regard is astounding. Out of a 25 country median, only 19% prefer Chinese leadership. That's pathetic.
You can find another set of 25 countries that will hold opposite idea..e.g Pakistan, iran, iraq and syria has more population than above combined excluding brazil/Nigeria

World is moving towards multipolar world...if countries refuse to follow set of rules than this would inevitably cause WW3..this is exactly what happened with Japan in league of nations and Germany when it was forced into WW2

So world & most developed countries still trust U.S.A. And good percentage for U.S.A favor in this poll.

Indonesia population: 261Million (mostly Muslims BTW)

US: 43%
China: 22%

That says a lot right there.

What world has learned, that too much power swing towards one party will only bring chaos and bullying. A balanced geopolitics and geo-economics where no one nation got sway, is where we are heading towards.

As the saying goes, better the devil you know than the devil you don't.

The world definitely wants a multi-polar world with different sources of prosperity and wisdom to rely on. However at the moment China still lacks policy transparency and accountability, and the world is afraid of changing into the unknown. It doesn't help when the rest of the world has been reading news of China's deepening authoritarianism in the past year or so. Term abolition, social credit system, increasing censorship, mass evictions of migrant workers in Beijing, etc.

Which idiot established this theme of discussion?

I expect better from PRC.

1. Poll mostly asking American ally countries.
2. The fact that poll is now even asking China vs. US in world leadership, where china is still a poor developing country, says a lot about western apprehension about China's rise. They are afraid when china crosses 15K GDP per capita, no one will want US as a leader.
3. you don't see any other country vs. US, it seems always US vs. China, and the pollster are always, always from the west. I don't see chinese is interested in conducting such poll. Western insecurity at best.

??? Why is 15K some special number? Why not 14K or 16K?
The US is over 56K..or is that 15K simply where your GDP crosses ours? I guess then it really isn’t about the number of people.

You can always send 1 Billion non-middle class people over the border into Russia tomorrow and you’ll have an easier time catching up to 56K. You’ll still be behind but not by much.

Most Chinese citizens would probably want the US to be the dominant global forces as well. Nobody would know, however, since they would not be allowed to express such sentiments.
