I know most of my Turkish friends on PDF would probably disagree with me on this strongly but I sincerely believe that the fall of the Ottoman Empire was probably the worst thing that happened to us Muslims in a long..long time. It had become decadent, corrupt and dysfunctional but you don't throw away one's parent when they're weak, unhealthy and in need of us the most. We should have fought for its preservation and reformation so that it could again echo its glorious past !

I respect Mr.Ataturk a lot...a lot ! I don't for a moment doubt his sincerity to the Turkish Nation but I'd love to ask him one day that he had at his disposal the chance to reform the Caliphate for the better, to root out hypocrisy and bigotry from Islam, to put an end to the poisons of nepotism, decadence and corruption that had crippled us Muslims and yet he choose address all the things that had tarnished the name of Islam by targeting 'Islam' instead ! Why...? Oh why...? I'd love to ask him whether he'd do the same thing all over again or would he approach this differently ! But then again I'd love to ask Jinnah as well whether he still thinks that wasting away his life, his health, his marriage and his love, for the Muslims of India was all worth it when his Pakistanis have reduced 'His Pakistan' to this level ! Damn...my head hurts !

Well, everything naturally goes through the process of "evolution"/Survival of the fittest. The otoman empire was a lackluster and corrupt empire towards it's end. It's sultans were the most corrupt ever.

In such a case it is only natural that Ottoman empire would be dismantled and a newer, better entity would be formed for better operation . It was done so by British, Russian and French empires. Better entity, in the form of nationalized countries were formed.

Can you tell me how do you expect Arabs, Turks, Armenians, Greeks and other races who fervently demanded independence, to live together under Ottoman caliph? The whole region would be on fire everyday and millions more would be killed.

Thus, in my opinion, the dismantlement of Ottoman empire may be sad for those who believe in pan Islamism, however, it was a necessity of time and ultiately proved to be something better than Ottoman itself.

Why do not you talk about the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR)? Her era started in 1922 and ended in 1991. On the other had, the ottoman empire`s era was between 1299 to 1922. Who is the sick man? Even not comparable, is it King Solomon?

If the Europe is so willing to name a country as sick, then they had better start themselves. I do not want to delve into the history but I just want to remind that the actual sick countries were in the Europe and eve today there is a lot of sick countries in the Europe. Allies of European countries could not do anything against the Ottomans almost 3 centuries. But I do not remember none of them was called sick man of Europe. This shows how they were so miserable and pathetic.

Every country has some bad and weak times in their time. So stop your nonsense and if you wish to call someone as a sick, start with USSR and other European countries.

There are few incidents in history deserves more than a mediocre wine and good reading chair but end of an corrupt empire is not one of them... 1299-1566 sultans except Beyazid, Murat the Fourth, Selim The Third... Most of the other sultans were nothing more than fat pigs with good family fortunes...

On topics, I have nothing against Turkey, they are just great country of simple western-minded radical kemalists attitudes. Please remember, Blue Mosque was the great Islamic architecture symbol design by Sultan Ahmet during Ottoman times.

As said by Neutralcitizin, Turks back then where dumb enough not to go with time and think that everything would be okay. If we werent dumb enough to modernize our entire country with industirilization, We would have seen a different Turkey, Rather one of the most powerfull in the Region. However this only started after Ataturk came to power and by then most other Europeun countries where world empires, Including USSR or Russian Empire. Russians where smart enough to go with time unlike us back then
