I admire the spirit of your post, Haviz. Zaid Hamid is actually a classic example of a conspiracy, I can post the studies and links here, if you want, to elaborate my point but being precise the following characteristics classify him as a 'consporacy':
a) the conspiracy is grand: a huge network is involved in Hamid's philosophy
b) the conspiracy is an ailment: if the conspiracy, or the Hindu-Zionist nexus, according to Hamid, is broken the 'self' party (what he identifies himself with) i.e. Muslims of Pakistan and the World would have their problems solved
c) the conspiracy is ultimate: every single problem in the self party can be traced to the conspiracy (e.g. corruption is because the Hindu-Zionists are funding inept leaders etc., Electricity shortage is b/c the Hindu-Zionists don't want us to prosper)
d) the conspiracy is infallable: all those who don't believe the conspiracy (Hindu-Zionist plans and agenda) are either involved in the conspiracy or are idiots (e.g. unable to see the reality)
People with other grand conpiracies e.g. Illuminati, Masons etc., exhibit the same characteristics. Social research shows that if such a conspiracy were true then it leaks (e.g. take for example the affairs of Roman emporers, at the time when controlling information was really easy, came out during their eras and were included in the historical discourses; the USA policies on energy are well recognised as to maintain the status quo by reputed scholars i.e. Chomsky, Said) The conspiracy part is not only fantasy driven but serves personal interests e.g. Mr Hamid potrays himself as the saviour and so on.
It's a text book case albeit homemade Pakistani.
The issue is we have mixed Nationalism with religion. This creates an explosive mix and we do not understand the damage we have done with this. I desist from calling him a conspiracy theorist because of some things I saw in my career and better days as a journalist when I could go out much more. At least 8 cases of false e-mails, etc IP adresses, basically falsified evidence in order to frame Muslims. The toronto 18 case was a total lie and Canadians have taken the lead in framing innocent civilians on false charges from US. The more I researched the more I was convinced. I wanted to do a report on it but fell sick and can't go out now. Note each family knows the kids were innocent.
Its happening in North America. I looked through the files. It was framing of Muslims-no real proof other than their so called records on the internet which is just flimsy evidence and since the feds constantly visit the homes of the said "suspect" they can just plant the so-called evidence. Personally the things I have seen make me wary of believing anything about charges US or India level against someone for terrorism. I know someone in Hyderabad too who they were going to frame on false charges for trying to file a report over the murder of an innocent. They are distant relatives but Sana baji was close to me and I saw her as a sister.
Basically anyone who eventually presents a view that is not in line with the modern media is immediately labelled a conspiracy theory. No one will believe me when I say this, unfortunately. So I become a "conspiracy theorist" because no one will believe me and here comes my sympathy with Zaid Hamid on his sometimes (even I consider to be) extravagantly wild theories.
Also do note in a country where bombs are going off daily and we fail to get main terrorists like Hakimullah and Fazlullah or even Ataullah (attacker of Malala), that country will obviously lose its credibility. Even here very few represent national interest. When someone says India is responsible people look at us and say your home isn't secure, how can India be responsible. They sympathize with them- they say a Pakistani is a terrorist, they believe him. The guy who framed the Toronto 18 was an Indian.
They have won the media war Jaibi. What I saw in Lucknow during the Samjhauta express attacks-the demonization of Pakistan... it is now a norm in international media. India has won in portraying us as terrorists. Zaid Hamid makes us feel good about ourselves... but his reality is a delusion and the history he tells us is one-sided. We should not mistake delusion as reality.
Good posts both of you. Enlightening debate.
