Nothing beats a nuclear reactor in sustained peak power output. For the Ford Class it’s 250 MW/ hr*. The EMALS energy store fully recharges in 45 seconds. Too slow..lol

*250 MW is enough to power about 25 American homes for a full year. The Ford Class generates that in one hour.

A1B thermal power output: 700 MW

A4W thermal power output: 550 MW


So basically the A1B is just around 25% more powerful than the A4W in term of generating the steam.

But it is still too slow to convert into electric power in order to meet the demand of the peak power consumption of the EMALS.

Fujian is capable to coordinate the nuclear propulsion and IEP to perform their task respectively, and the next supercarrier gonna integrate the nuclear propulsion and IEP into one.
