Because during that time the Sultan and the one before him weren't the one's in actual power. In 1908 a group called 'Young Turks' succeeded a in coup against Sultan Abdul Hamid Han. After this, the young Turks were in actual power in the Ottoman empire. They were 2 other Sultan's after 1908, but they had limited power. The young Turks were spreading nationalism among it's territories and that triggered other type's of nationalism (like Arabic nationalism) among the various groups within the empire. The result of this, was for instance the Arab revolt, with the help of the British who fueled their nationalism, which started in 1914 if I remember correctly.

There is more to this story obviously, I mean, Ottoman's wanted to Allie with Britain, France and Russia. And Ottoman's wanting to buy 2 warships from the British, but despite having paid for it, the Brit's backed out of the deal and kept the money (said they would pay it back, if Ottoman's stayed neutral in the conflict with Germany). This and other things pushed the Ottoman's to Allie with Germany, and the end result of which was WW1 and it's aftermath.

This is just a little I wrote here, but I advise you to not take my word for it and do your own research on the subject.

your words are valuable , and its always good to learn something new from native people ...
Turkey is one my Favorite country to Live in , its actually my dream to visit there once in life time ...

We answered their call, however insignificant it was but we did stand by the Turks.

by " We " means Pakistani or Muslims ?

on both occasions some muslims did answer the call. Its much easier to communicate with people directly now, which is why ISIS gets more foreign recruit than ottomans.

saying arabs betrayed ottomans, is like saying Indians betrayed british. Ottomans were colonizers themselves.

I know what you mean but isnt it much more complicated than just that?
just because some arabs betrayed Ottomans doenst make ummah an illusion

Sharif Hussein had arab rebels on his side so had the Turkish army arab volenteers in their ranks how could you blame whole Arab nation just cause of minority troublemakers.

I never said, this thing.....apart from it....i'm not talking with you El-Turco.

brother , you are right , we have history of betraying our own people ...so if i ask , how the Ottoman Empire people respond to call of Jihad from Sultan ?

Turks fought, rest did not.

:o: my grandfather's grandfather also fought in war never saw ataturk make republic he die fighting russians :)
May Allah bless his soul.

Let's just stay away from each other.

Lets be true the Ottoman Empire deserved to fall.
Backwards Laws/Technology and crappy Militaries (with few good exceptions).
And the chains of forcing people to forget their heritage. (Mostly speaking about the discrimmination of Turks/Turkics in the Empire which in the last years were tried to be changed by the young Turks)

1. News were not used to spread fast and not aired for 24 hours.
2. No night talk shows
3. It was easy to control masses physically so british (& other) could have suppressed eager ones easily (nowadays it is mentally).
4. That era was still a hand to hand fight era. Now, modern weapons do more damage and and infantry man can destroy a Tank.
5. People general behavior hs changed. Nowadays, they are sharp, less compromising, more aggressive and have more violent approach.

You called me doubleface/traitor/ arab arsekisser and what not just because i said Arabs are our muslim brothers and racism/nationalism is haram

all you seculars attacked me after that

go ahead deny it
Last time replying...."I speak with evidence"

Mustafa Kamal has beat the Allied forces on his front ... one can not Question the Ability of Turks to Fight and Fight bravely ... even when the Ottomans Empire were almost fallen , they manage to stop at least one side Invasion ... not a easy task to do ...

@Sinan your comments ?

I must say not much have changed in Mid East except shifting of borders. People are still killing each other in proxy wars without even knowing what they are fighting for !

I used to think it was the Arabs entirely as Turks often claimed then I read about it. It was Sharif Hussein and Muhammad Ali who backstabbed the legitimate Khalifah through British support, not the rest of the Arabs who stood out of politics. This resulted to losing a large portion of territories from North Africa to the Hijaz since both Egypt and the Hijaz were always a strategic importance for the Foreign Powers and a centre foothold of the Arab and Islamic world. This was the reason the Anglo French Powers had their sight there first in order to bring down the Ottoman because they can't defeat the Empire without Muslims support and injected nationalism among Muslims then the division began.

For example, Mohammed AbdelKareem was a Maghrebi resistance leader and Ottoman loyalist and worked hard to liberate the Maghreb from the Europeans, same to India which Pakistan and Bangladesh used to be part of played in the role of defending the Ottoman Empire and worked hard to revolt against the Europeans. The Malay countries also rebelled before the Anglo-French annexed Muslim South East Asia to what also include South Thailand, South Philipines, Cham Vietnam. Something what media often portrayed it as "Christian" today. As for Eastern Europe, it was the Christian Serbs and the Greeks/Macos etc who revolted first and Armenian backing Russia because they tend to have deeper hatred for Turks, the Muslims didn't do anything especially when they were positioned in higher ranks among the Ottoman army like the Albanians.

This is when the Ottoman had no authorities over the Muslim local Sultanates in Muslim Africa and Asia beside South East Europe and the Middle East, it was too late due to the growing European emergence and fuelling colonial mindset among Muslims who lost touch to the outside world but let's be real, the rest of the Muslim countries were either client states or domain, they didn't have the 'actual' authority over the local Muslim sultanates. The glory days of Darul Uthmaniyah ended when they stopped the offensive Jihad and shifted to defensive after the second seige of Vienna due to Safavi emergence.

Why do they answer their calls today?

This is because back then, Muslim countries were stable due to no foreign meddlings. Today, things have changed, borders messed them up, due to heavy foreign inteference and so on which led to various conflicts and etc so Muslims come to rebel against its enemies.

Didn't really bother to read all the posts, but I believe you can find the answer to why so many join in how the west has treated muslims after 9/11, that is the turning point for when it became "legit" to bash islam and all immigrants.

Also another aspect that you might want to read to truly understand how the west views these "immigrants" from mid 60's until now is in the link below, I found this a few years ago and it pretty much nails it.

Remember this is only about Denmark, but an article published yesterday in b.dk had a rabbi telling them the reason why so many young "muslims" do bad things. Mainly because the entire religion, culture is being attacked, circumcission is criminalized etc.
